Hi I'm Richard

I grew up in the U.S. Airforce, I love to use computers, I look for (and sometimes make) a reason to smile, and best I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hobbies: I am a gamer in many senses of the word. I LOVE to read books. My favorite sport is SCA style swordfighting. I am studing 3D design. I am serving my mission, Colorado Denver North Mission. I am from a family of eight (2 parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and me). I grew up in the military and have been to 9 different schools in my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised into this religion, and with a little searching have found it to be the right religion. Because I grew up in the Military death has always loomed over my families head, my Dad could get killed anytime that he deploys. So I find tremendous comfort in the Plan of Salvation, and the fact that my family will be together forever.

How I live my faith

Currently I am serving a Full-time mission. One of our teachings is that we have our members share the support that our faith and knowledge brings us.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Richard
Yes, we believe the Bible to be the word of God. The problem is that it has been translated and edited so many times that some doctine has been lost. We believe that the Book of Mormon fills in any of those gaps and that between the two we have the fullness of God's Gospel Show more Show less

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

Richard
Mormon's are normaly called a cult out of misunderstanding, and because most people don't know the definition of cult. Definition of CULT 1: formal religious veneration : worship 2: a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents 3: a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also : its body of adherents 4: a system for the cure of disease based on dogma set forth by its promulgator health cults 5a : great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book); especially : such devotion regarded as a literary or intellectual fad b : the object of such devotion c : a usually small group of people characterized by such devotion Marriam Dictionary So as you can see most of the definitions would apply to any religion that is viewed by someone as not right. But all of the defintions, when applyed to worshiping God the Father, and his Son Jesus Christ, would be ANY Christian religion. In essence the term cult means any religion other that your own. The problem is rumors are spread that Mormon's are not Christian, so the Christian world says that we are a cult. We ARE Christians we DO believe in Christ and we DO know that he was sent here to save us all. The main point though is Mormons are not a cult. Show more Show less

Can husband and wife be together forever? Do you believe that families will live together in heaven?

Richard
Yes, and Yes. God ordains families and he has since Bible times required that a man and a woman be married and that the man is to provide and protect, that the woman is to nuture and to teach. We believe and know that families when sealed in God's temple take the "till death do you part," out of our marriage vow. We are married for "Time and all Eternity." Is "till death do you part" exceptable to you? Show more Show less

How does the Church finance its operations?

Richard
So in the LDS Church we finance all of our operations with tithes and offerings. Our tithing does NOT go into our bishop's pocket in any way. It is instead used to pay for new church buildings, temples, scriptures, etc. So that is how we help the Lord's Kingdom progress. God's church not it's clergy run on donations. And we finance our humanitarian efforts through, fast offerings. The money we save when we fast, or go without food for two meals, is used to provide for the poor and the needy. Show more Show less
