Hi I'm Herb

I grew up as a Episcopalian in the Midwest and moved to the Southwest where values were very different. Now, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a construction worker in the Southwest for the last 35 years, I love creating and fixing things with my hands. I love fishing and the out-of-doors. I am also a Photophile and need to take pictures wherever I go. My family and the quality of my neighborhood are important to me. I've been happily married to my best friend for thirty years and I'm the father of six children & two dogs.

Why I am a Mormon

I found genuine old fashioned values & easy friendship offered by a group of teens in my high school, my Senior year. So when they asked me to attend their week night youth activity I accepted and found that they lived the Golden Rule. As I associated with these youth & their adult leaders something felt right. This special feeling propelled me further to accept the invitation to attend Sunday meetings. The warmth of the welcome I receive Sunday morning from people I'd never met before was surprising, the Spirit I felt as we worshiped together was inspiring and caused me to examine further their faith & beliefs. As I met with the young pair of missionaries over the next few months they revealed truths from the scriptures that answered questions that I had long held but had not been answered, even by my Episcopal confirmation the previous year. Challenged by them to ponder and pray about their message, God honored my prayers with His promise in James 3:5 that those who lacked wisdom could ask Him and He would give it to them liberally. The Book of Mormon confirms God's method of inviting us to test Him in Moroni 10:3-5. Heavenly Father's promise of a witness via the Holy Ghost was the clincher; when I found that I did not have to rely on anyone else but Him for an answer of my heart felt desire to know Him! The rest is history, a story of change, growth & joy of a child coming to know a Father who had he'd become estranged from, but found anew! I came home again!

How I live my faith

I'm enjoying the best that life has to offer as I follow my Savior Jesus Christ, in striving to live His Gospel. My local congregation is my extended family, my peers who support me by their example, while facing the challenges of their everyday lives. As I've learned to love & serve them, as Jesus served us, I've come to know the lovingkindness and grace of my Heavenly Father. Service to others can change our trials into blessings and change sorrows into joy. God's "Plan of Happiness" for us is full of blessings that are greater than we could dream of for ourselves. He is faithful to those who believe & follow Him!
