Hi I'm Ryan

College student, yoga teacher, avid meditator, lover of peaches, nature, and musical theater. Oh, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm currently studying Social Work so i can be a legal therapist. My friends would call me all the time to talk about their problems, and i got to be really good at it. Now i'd like to do that for a living. I'm passionate about helping victims of trauma and abuse, and i hope to make a difference by changing the world's perspective on the importance of the family. I have two major sides to my personality, the loud and fun dude who loves musical theater, and who responds to others in song; and the quiet, reflective guy who gets up early in the morning to meditate, do yoga, pray, and study the scriptures. Whether it's Frank Wildhorn's latest musical, a classic like Cats, or listening to the sounds of monks or yogis chanting sacred scripture, i'm almost always listening to music. When i'm not listening to music, or making music, i'm either working with someone, or spending time in nature looking at the sky, or sitting quietly near some trees.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because of all the religions i've studied, this is by far the happiest, most all encompassing religion i've ever found. When i have a question, they encourage me to study the scriptures, and ask God. I've found that when i follow that pattern, my questions are always answered, and i always feel better about myself, and everything else around me. When i asked if Joseph Smith was a prophet (we've got an entire section of the website dedicated to what that means!), i got a clear, and undeniable answer. Joseph Smith was called as a prophet. He acted on God's directions, and established Christ's church on the earth again. Many other miracles followed after the establishment of Christ's church, and miracles continue today.

How I live my faith

In my daily life, I live my faith by encouraging everyone i meet to be their best selves. I believe that God made us all unique, and special. I also believe that if we fight against ourselves, we'll always lose the fight. I'm always telling my friends what i like about them, or what good i've seen them do, or about things i've observed about them, that they might not know about themselves. In my church community i teach a mens class on Sundays, where we learn to be better men of God.

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

They will want to get to know you a little, and then talk about Jesus Christ, and invite you to do read, and pray, and think, and study about Jesus Christ. They'll also invite you to make changes in your life, so your life is happier, and more holy. Show more Show less

What is the Law of Chastity?

A "law" in a universal standpoint is something that is true, regardless of whether people agree with it, or live it. The law of chastity then is a principle that we agree to live by that governs how we interact with other people sexually. Sex is a way of sharing intimate, deep, powerful feelings with somebody else. Marriage is designed to be a permanent institution, so we plan on not having sex with anyone that we are not married with. This saves us a lot of emotional distress because we save this very special part of ourselves for someone that we will live for the rest of our lives with. Ultimately we live this law because we love God, and we know that by obeying him, we'll be happy. For some, like myself, this can seem like a big sacrifice. For many years I was sexually attracted to men. I made the commitment not to have sexual relations with other men because I wanted to have a family. I clung to hope that I could have a family one day. I've found a wonderful girl who is willing to work with me and my quirks, and hopefully we'll be married soon. :-) I've been very happy as I've abstained from sexual relations and pornography. It's helped me have a more fulfilling relationship Show more Show less

In whom should we have faith?

Short answer: Jesus Christ. Long answer: Faith is a trust, a confidence, and an expectation that certain outcomes will occur. Sometimes we misplace our faith on things that won't stand up to examination. Sometimes we misplace our faith on a sports team, and they let us down. However, there is one person who will never let us down, and that person was born over 2,000 years ago, and has loved you since before you were born. That person is Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Savior of the World. In him, we place our confidence that if we live by his teachings, we'll have salvation, even though we aren't perfect yet. We exercise our confidence daily, by seeking to change our beliefs and attitudes that are not in alignment with His teachings, and by forgiving ourselves and others. Show more Show less
