Hi I'm Heidi

I 'm from New Mexico, I'm a mother, a wife, a recent technical college graduate and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a 43 year old wife, mother of four teenagers, singer and recent vocational college graduate. I love music and truly believe it is a gift from God. I have truly been blessed to share my gift of music for many years. It is so rewarding knowing how music touches people in so many ways. I love the outdoors and spend every moment I can outside when it is warm with my family doing whatever we can find to do outside. Each day I ask myself, "Will I ever live through this?", and "Will my children ever live through me?".

Why I am a Mormon

Many times I have found myself in situations where I am so greatful for the life I lead. My father joined the church when he was 12 years old. He along with two brothers and three sisters. I asked him what he had to give up when he joined the church. He told me a life of smoking and drinking probably. My grandfather was an alcoholic that spent most of his money on alcohol. He wasn't a bad man. He was a good, honorable man with a horrible addiction that took over his life. He and three of my father's brothers died from alcohol or cigarette related diseases. At a young age, my father saw how this type of lifestyle devasted a family. They nearly starved because of the lack of money for food. He did not want that for his family. I am so greatful for the strength he had to follow his convictions at a young age and make a better life for his future generations. I have stress and problems like everyone else, but thanks to my father leaving that type of lifestyle my problems seem so small in comparison to the types of problems these types of lifestyles seem to bring with them. I am so happy. Even when I have problems. I have a deep rooted happiness that cannot be taken from me because I know who I am, I know where I came from, I know where I am going and I know I am a Daughter of God with divine qualities that I have been given to help raise my children in a very dark and depressing world.

How I live my faith

I work with the young women in my area and I see the struggles that young kids are surrounded by on a daily basis. I also see the strength they have and that helps strengthen me. We do activities once a week that helps the youth to bond and to help each other through the struggles they face each day. It is very rewarding. I serve the community through being politically active and stressing the importance of making sure our country is going in the direction it should be going. We have a sacred right and obligation to vote and I believe it should be exercised regularly. I believe in electing good and honorable people to lead our country and do my part to make sure that happens.

Why is self-reliance important to Mormons? Why do Mormons talk about emergency preparedness?

I have a first-hand knowledge of the importance of being prepared for emergencies. I was probably the worst at having food storage and had good intentions but found myself overwhelmed and not knowing where to start. I had a friend that helped me organize myself and start small. Once I did this, I began to get a lot of food set aside. The following year, my husband was hit by a car while riding his bicycle. He was out of work for 2 months. Then when he returned, the economy had gone bad and he had to take another month off of work without pay. This was one of the most trying times we have had to go through as a family. Thanks to the food storage that I built up, we did not starve. We had food to eat. I am so greatful for this principle taught by the church. Emergencies always happen when we aren't expecting them and if we have something to fall back on it makes very stressful situations easier to bare.  Show more Show less

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

I believe the desire that people have to become better is one reason for the growth of the church. To want more for their families is a huge reason the church keeps growing. I believe that most people really want to live good lives and do what is right. Sometimes they may make bad choices and want so badly to change their lives and be better. The principles of the church help us to know who we are, why we are here and what we have to look forward to. When you know these things, your perspective on life changes. You want to make better choices because you know you have a Father in Heaven who loves you just like an earthly father, only more. He wants what is best for you and knows what will ultimately make you happy. By following His teachings we grow closer to Him and replace sorrow with a happiness that is unmeasureable. Who wouldn't want to have this knowledge or happiness. Who wouldn't want to live a better life and strive to live forever in heaven with our Father and families. Show more Show less

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

I do not go to bed at night until I have read from the Book of Mormon. It is comforting to know that God can speak to me through scripture. It helps me know that he knows me and cares about me. Many times I have found answers to my daily problems through the scriptures. They have truly blessed my life. Show more Show less
