Hi I'm Martha

I was born in Bangkok and raised in Virginia. I am married and have four daughters. I teach German. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Martha. I have been happily married for nearly 24 years, have four beautiful daughters who continue to help me become a better person. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, working in my garden, organizing my home and serving my family and those around me. After marrying a German, I took the challenge to learn and appreciate the German language and culture. I now enjoy teaching 13 3rd/4th classes per week at my daughters school.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that this is God's church on earth and as I live His commandments and follow my Savior, Jesus Christ, that I will have peace and joy in my life, despite the challenges that each of us face. I know that God is the same today, yesterday and forever and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been restored to the earth again, patterned after Christ's church when He was on the earth. I know that God called the prophet, Joseph Smith, to restore the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to restore the Priesthood to the earth again. He has called a living prophet, President Thomas S. Monson, who continues to receive revelation to direct the church in these latter days. I know that I also can receive personal revelation through prayer, fasting and scripture study, so I can feel God close to me, so I can receive guidance and promptings to bless me and my family. I made the decision at age 12 to follow God's plan and knew that He would always be with me to help me along my way. He has always been there and I have never doubted. I know that Jesus Christ was sent to this earth as our Savior, to sacrifice His life, so that we may repent and be forgiven and healed from our sins and sorrows. Through this miraculous atonement I know that we can all we whole and overcome all obstacles. It is a great privilege and blessing for me to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

How I live my faith

In addition to teaching and raising my daughters, I currently have the privilege of teaching the New Testament to 10 6-8 years olds as well as serve as a Visiting Teacher, where I visit certain women in our congregation each month. There are many opportunties to serve and love and share. I enjoy supporting our high school theater and swim program as well as volunteer at the elementary school.

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

Martha
When a marriage is built on the foundation of Jesus Christ, and the greatest desire for both partners is to follow Him, to try to be more like Him, marriages are greatly blessed with increased patience, love, forgiveness and charity. Through the atonement of Christ, we truly can see our spouse as our Savior sees him/her, thereby overlooking small or great weaknesses. By loving our spouse as the Savior loves him/her, we truly have the strength to love, not criticize, to encourage, not nag, to celebrate, not demean. Show more Show less
