Hi I'm Joe Visker

I am a convert. I am from Vermont. I played college basketball, train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am a convert from Essex Jct. Vermont. I joined the church when I was 20. After I went through some hard experiences in my life, I realized something was missing. My girlfriend and I had just broken up and I decided that I needed something more in my life. I started reading the Book of Mormon. Then met with the missionaries. Then got baptized. My family, being Catholic, was not too happy that I had changed religions. They were concerned that I was making a huge mistake in my life. I knew that I had felt something change in my life and had to continue down this path the Lord had placed before me. I moved to Utah and I got married in the Salt Lake temple to that same girl who I had broken up with and introduced me to the Book of Mormon. I am a Graduate Student, and enjoy spending time with my family, and dog.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a mormon because in my study of this church I have felt something that I cannot deny. When meeting with the missionaries in my early 20's I was in a bad place, and hanging out with the wrong people. I always felt and thought that life was more than just life and death. I had pondered important questions when I was younger and those questions we all answered when meeting with the missionaries. There was not a single question that could not be answered by those two elders and church members who were apart of my conversion. This church has changed my life and my personality. Before I joined this church I was a mean, spiteful, and disrespectful person. The principles that this church has taught me has converted me into a person who loves my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I have learned how to follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost and live a life that is worth something!! I had my doubts at first, but took a leap of faith into the darkness and have come out on top. We are more than just skin and bones that walk around the Earth. We have a purpose, and are here to progress and return to a loving, caring Heavenly Father who cares about us and our struggles. I know this church to be the most correct of any church on this planet, and I know that I am doing the things that my God wants me to by being a member. He has blessed me with so many things that I didn't deserve. After joining the church so many things have happened to put me in a place to succeed and have a meaningful life. I am grateful for my Heavenly Father caring enough about me as an individual to put people in my path to bring me to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being actively involved in my communities that I live in. When I lived in UT I coached High School basketball and tried to be a good example to the youth. I tried to teach, and motivate my players to become more than just basketball players but to be leaders in their families, school, and communities. I have also had church callings that allow me to work with the Youth. I have been involved in the Scouting program for the church and also completing service projects. I love the church for all of the opportunities that continue to present themselves to serve and help others.
