Hi I'm Don Nelson

I'm a husband, a father of 2 autistic adult children and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I have been a member of the church all of my life. About the age of 21 I fell inactive. Then in 1999 several things happened to me to cause me to rethink about the direction that my life was going. I decided that I needed to return to the direction that God wanted me to go. One of the events that happened was the baptism of my daughter (at the age of 17) who is a high functioning autistic adult. Another thing that happened is that I fell very ill. I went from 145lbs to 120 lbs in about 1 week. This was the lowest part of my life. To make along story short, my Brother ordained me an Elder on Dec 12, 1999 at the age of 46, 30 years after being ordained a priest by my dad. Since then I have served in different callings or positions in the church including 2 times as a councelor in the elders quorum presidency. My wife and I were sealed in the Mesa, AZ temple on Jan 18, 2003 after 27 1/2 years of marriage. We have 2 children. A boy who has low functioning autism and a daughter mentioned previously. My wife served as a ward librarian from Nov 1999 to Mar 2010. We are now both serving jointly as our wards bulletin specialists & keeping our wards bulletin board up to date in the Granite Creek Ward, Prescott Valley, AZ Stake.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon not because is was born into a family the were Mormons (my mother was not a member of the church untill later in my life) but because I believe that God and Jesus Christ visited a 13 year old boy by the name of Joeseph Smith. I also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God and also a history of people on the American continents both North and South America. I believe that Joeseph Smith was a prophet of God as are all of the prophets to the current who is Pres. Thomas S. Monson. I also believe that His 2 councilors and the 12 apostles are prophets of God. This is my testimony. In the name of Jesus Christ Amen

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving in all of the callings that I am called to. I also provide service to my fellow man when ever it is possible to do so. I also try to live the way that Jesus lived everyday.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Don Nelson
It has been my experience that when help is needed reguardless of who you are and what church you are a member of we are all brothers and sisters. I have been involved with Mormon Helping Hands in my ward for about a year and we have been to many non-members homes to help them clean up and do what we could do to help. I guess the awnser is we help whoever needs help reguardless of LDS membership. We are after all our brothers (and sisters) keeper. Show more Show less
