Hi I'm John

I live in Oregon. I've got pale skin and sad eyes. I'm a lover of life. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is John. Not Jaughn. It feels really strange to write about myself. My hobbies, for now, include walking, talking, riding my bike, buying neck ties, but that's right now. I used to read good books. I used to go to shows, and watch my favorite musicians play, and get lost in the atmosphere. I love writing, and I love to play and create music, and so much else. I don't mean to make anyone feel inferior, but I'm pretty incredible at Minesweeper. I've always loved spending time with friends and family. But I'm putting that stuff aside now, so I can focus more on my spiritual side while I'm serving my two year mission. When I get home, I'll pick up where I left off. Doing the same things, but not as the same person. I'll go to college. I'll get married. I'll start a career. But until then, it's not my interests that I'm interested in.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into this faith. Admittedly, if it weren't for that, I have no idea where I would be, religion or otherwise. I've continued in this faith because, as I've grown in knowledge of my faith and other faiths, and even no faith, this is the one that makes the most sense to me. Because we are, because we exist, and we live the in the way we do, I believe there is a God. I take that side. And if there is a God, I believe he hasn't abandoned us to prove a point, or to watch us suffer. We aren't creations that he watches till we get too boring or too old, then die. If there is a God, then it has to be a God who loves us. He has to be perfect, whole, and there cannot be anything more perfect, more whole, or else He would, you know, not be God. And if He is God, and perfect, and therefore does everything perfectly, then this life of ours isn't a plan gone wrong or rogue. We aren't abandoned to see how far down we can go, and this isn't some simple test to see if we are worthy enough to worship God for eternity, or to suffer in hell if we aren't. Everything would have to have been foreseen, and be part of His perfect plan. The evolution of the earth, Adam and Eve, the freedom to choose and inherit the consequences, Christ, and His church's persecution through out history. And this Church, I believe, fits closest to what the truth has to be. I've come to find that out for myself, through study and through requests of guidance from my Father in Heaven, who I know listens and answers our prayers. I know He will listen to any person who sincerely and earnestly petitions to Him for truth and direction.

How I live my faith

Right now I'm serving a two year proselyting mission in Oregon. Before this, I taught 8 and 9 year old's during church services. Both are pretty crazy, but completely fun, and huge learning experiences for me.
