Hi I'm Nani

I live in rural America and I know how to catch a rooster. I'm a writer, teacher, mother of five... and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am Maestra (Teacher) to students learning English, Mom to five children, and the wife of a busy man. I am a dancer who can hula, a traveler to many parts of the world, and an aspiring best-seller author. I am the daughter of humble parents and the sister to eight siblings. I was a full-time missionary in Uruguay, an honors graduate from college, and supported my husband through twenty years of schooling. I am more liberal than some, and more conservative than others. I am an advocate of education and I speak Spanish every day. I am a resident of a small town – not where I ever thought I'd be, but a place I never want to leave. I love to read, write, make cool things out of junk, spend time with family, and enjoy a good chocolate anything. I'm not the best cook, or a morning person, and I try hard not to yell at my kids. I am happy with life... and I'm a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

The gospel of Jesus Christ is the greatest blessing in my life. It is the one thing that is constant in this ever changing world. It brings inner peace at a time when there is little peace in the world, and most of all it brings hope. Through my membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I have learned, and continue to learn, what it means to be a true follower of Christ. I have learned how to be a good mother, a good wife, and how to weather the storms that face family and marriage. Within the church I find support and friendships that give me strength in times of challenge. I know that I can go anywhere in the world, walk into any LDS chapel, and find the same love and support that I find at home. As I follow the teachings of Jesus Christ I feel joy in this life knowing that I am a child of a loving Heavenly Father, that life has purpose, and that our relationships with loved ones do not end at death, but continue on forever.

How I live my faith

Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints mean devoting your life to Jesus Christ and following his teachings. Each day I have the opportunity to do this as I serve in my community, church, and home. I teach English Language Learner students at an elementary school and through my work there are many opportunities to help and serve others. I am an advocate of education and have worked to develop programs for the migrant student population in my community. I work with the youth and children's programs at church, and I serve every day of my life in my own home with my own family. I consider what I do in my home to be my greatest work. Jesus Christ was not a "respecter of persons"; he loved and served everyone. I strive to live my faith by following this example. I hope that in all I do I can in some way touch and lift the lives of others.

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

The Holy Ghost blesses our lives in many ways. Through the Holy Ghost we can know if something is true and if it comes from God. We can receive guidance and inspiration to help us with our many responsibilities in life. I have felt this inspiration many times as a mother and a teacher. The Holy Ghost also comforts us in times of need, brings clarity to our minds, and helps us feel peace and security. Show more Show less
