Hi I'm Jonathan

I'm a Mormon. I am from New Zealand and I love rugby and the gospel!

About Me

I love RUGBY! Being from New Zealand the dream has always been to play for the All Blacks so I'm still working on that! I love Basketball also and support the Utah Jazz. When I go home I want to enter the defence forces and another dream is to fly the police helicopter! :)

Why I am a Mormon

Because I know the Book of Mormon is true! I was brought up as a Mormon but growing up I didn't realise the blessing the gospel was. The Atonement is such a wonderful gift the Saviour has given us by His sacrifice and if I could go back in time and study the gospel more fully I would without a doubt! I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God and that Joseph Smith was the instrument in the Lords hands to translate the Book through the power of God. Families are ordained of God and are meant to be forever! Happiness comes from living the gospel principles fully and following the words of the prophets. I love the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints it is the only true church on the face of the earth and we can know this through prayer if we sincerely want to.

How I live my faith

I try to follow Jesus Christs perfect example.

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

This is called Tithing. It is the opportunity to help God in assisting in His great work. God doesn't need our money at all but he allows us to show our love for him by giving back what was already his. It is a commandment that has been around for a long time! We read of the amazing blessings in the Old Testament in Malachi 3:4-6 where the Lord promises to bless us more than we can imagine. Show more Show less

Who was Joseph Smith?

Joseph Smith was someone just like me and you. When I was 14 I didn't really care too much about salvation I just wanted to have fun but Joseph Smith wanted and desired to know the truth. Because of the faith and trust in God this ordinary boy was shown an unordinary and extraordinary vision. He was chosen by Jesus Christ to be a prophet of God, just like Moses or Noah. Joseph Smith admits that he wasn't perfect but he was able to be instrumental in restoring the perfect church of Jesus Christ completely with no missing pieces. Show more Show less

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Yes. The Bible is essential in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Without the Bible Joseph Smith never would have been inspired to pray and ask God which church was true. The Bible along with the Book of Mormon is that sure witness that Christ lives and that God has spoken and continues to speak to us through a prophet today. Joseph Smith wrote: "We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly" Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about family?

We believe that families are ordained of God and are the most important social unit that we can have or experience in this life. Families are important to our loving Father in Heaven as we are all brothers and sisters so he has given us the teachings of Jesus Christ (the gospel) to help our homes and family learn in a loving atmosphere. Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

As annoying as it may seem and as annoying as it is for some missionaries proselyte because we know how much the gospel can do for everyone. Everyone is different but God knows us all personally and has created that church for everyone! After receiving undeniable witnesses that this is the church of Jesus Christ, missionaries proselyte to give others the opportunity to feel how the missionaries felt in first realising the gospel was true. Simply, missionaries do it because they love everyone as their brothers and sisters. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons baptize their new members?

Baptism is an outward expression of an inward commitment. In the scriptures it is likened to a 'gate'. Baptism is the first ordinance of the gospel and shows our Father in Heaven our commitment to honour and worship Him. Jesus Christ makes it clear in John 3:5 that "unless a man is born of water and of the spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of God". Show more Show less
