Hi I'm Katie

I teach science in a rural community. I love to see the light of understanding in my students' eyes.

About Me

I am a junior high and high school science teacher. As a shy and reluctant child, I am sure no one thought I would grow up to become a teacher who is constantly speaking in front of others! So you may understand that my job is both wonderful and challenging at times. I do love it though. The times that I need to relax and destress, I enjoy reading books, watching movies, canoeing, hiking, playing volleyball and spending time doing anything with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family with parents who had great faith. I was taught to trust and rely on Heavenly Father in my life. But even still, a person needs to receive a testimony, or witness of their own, in order to truly believe and understand in their heart all that they have been taught. One of my first experiences of knowing that my Heavenly Father cared and knew me came when I was about 10 years old. I had a terrible temper that continually got the better of me. On this particular day it had bested me when I spilled my hot dinner on myself. I got angry and ended up running upstairs upset and crying. As I was in my bedroom, I suddenly realized that I was sick and tired of being angry all the time. I needed help to control myself. I got down on my knees and prayed to Heavenly Father. I asked him to help me control my anger. As I prayed, I felt a great peace come to my heart and I instantly felt better and less angry. I knew that Heavenly Father had heard my pray and would be there to help me. It took a long time to control, but today, I rarely get angry. I know that it was through the help of Heavenly Father in my life that I was able to overcome my very bad temper.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by stiving to do the best I can with what the Lord has given me. Currently, I have been given the opportunity to work with the youth of my community. On Sundays I get to work with the young children (3-12) of our church by teaching lessons about the Savior and Heavenly Father each week. Then through the week, I get to work my students at school and strive to help them be the best person they can be. Through these small ways, I am give the chance to apply my faith and to strive to do what Heavenly Father would have me do.
