Hi I'm Kathy Ashley

After raising three amazing daughters in sunny Florida, I went back to school and earned a bachelor's degree. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love being a mother and now a grandmother--although I still can't figure out how that's possible--where did the time go. Most of my extra time in the last few years has been spent doing homework. About thirty years after dropping out of college, I decided to finish what I started and go back. I recently graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in General Studies with an emphasis in Management. The icing on the cake was that I finished the same time as one of my daughters--we graduated together. I now plan to use my extra time to learn new things that I find interesting, like photography and cooking. Although I think I enjoy cooking because I love eating.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but decided when I was 16 years old that I needed to know for myself whether the teachings of the Church were true. I found my answer as I followed the promise in the Book of Mormon in Moroni 10:4-5 to read and then ask God with a sincere heart and real intent if the things written in the Book are true. God answered that prayer with a feeling of peace and assurance. I continue to have that good feeling as I strive to live the gospel. It's a feeling of satisfaction in my soul that I haven't been able to find anywhere else except through Jesus Christ and the fulness of His gospel. I am so grateful to know that God continues to guide us through a living prophet in these difficult times. My husband and I have seen great blessings as we have tried to follow the prophet's counsel to found our marriage and family on the teachings of Jesus Christ--teachings like faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work and wholesome recreational activities. It is through being a Mormon that I know God lives, loves me, and has a plan for me and all of His children. I know why I'm here on this earth and where I am going after I leave here and that because of Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice I have the opportunity to live with my Heavenly Father and my family again.

How I live my faith

For three years I had the opportunity to teach high school youth a scripture study class early in the morning before they went to high school. I loved studying the scriptures and then teaching what I learned. It was a great way to start the day for all of us. I really admire the young people I taught for striving to stand for truth and righteousness, even when that meant standing alone. This past year I've worked with the single adults in the Church--all ages. It's been fun attending their meetings and get-togethers. I also had the opportunity to be a Girls' Camp leader for girls ages 12 to 15. Except for the mice, it was 3 days of non-stop fun and learning. Currently, I am back working with the early-morning scripture study program. Instead of teaching though, I supervise and help eight teachers from congregations in the surrounding area. I've had the opportunity to serve in a variety of ways through the years and have loved learning new things and building long-lasting friendships.
