Hi I'm Danika

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest. I love maps and data organization. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I come from a large family of eleven children. It's busy, but it's a lot of fun. I am just about to graduate with my Bachelors degree in geography with an emphasis in geographic information systems. I love old movies, mangoes, classic novels, Lord of the Rings, roasted red pepper hummus!

Why I am a Mormon

Life without hope is miserable, and without Jesus Christ, there is nothing to hope for. I've struggled with clinical depression for years and it's been a battle all the way, but I know the only reason I've made it through is because of my faith in Jesus Christ and my hope that through Him, everything will be made right. I think that if I didn't know about the gospel of Jesus Christ, I would feel very lost. Those moments when you're looking up from the bottom of a big, black hole, the only thing you can hold on to is that life isn't always going to be like this. There is a sense of belonging and comfort that comes in knowing that you are a child of God and that He loves you. I'm a Mormon because I want to follow Jesus Christ and I want the peace that comes from knowing that I have been forgiven of my sins and that everything that is unfair will be made right through him.

How I live my faith

I wake up early every morning to sharpen my saw by studying the sciptures, and then live my life trying to apply those things I've learned. I try to be kind to people, I try to follow inspiration I receive to help people, and so one. I'm not perfect at it, but I try.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Danika
For me, some of the things that remind me there is a God are the little coincidences that occur in my daily life. Sometimes when I’m feeling depressed or lonely, a roommate or a friend will give me a note telling me they love me. I may need to miss a class to help a friend get through something in their life and it turns out that class will be canceled for the day. I may run into a friend I haven’t seen in years and they are able to console and advise me in the exact way I needed. It’s the little things that remind me that I have a Father in Heaven who loves me and is in the details of my life. Not everything will work out perfectly; I still need challenges and trials in order to grow and become a better person. But if we are looking for the tender mercies that God gives us every day, we will find Him everywhere we turn. Show more Show less

What does Mormonism teach regarding baptism?

Danika
We believe that baptism is essential for salvation. It shows that we are willing to follow Jesus Christ and live according to His commandments. However, it must be baptism by immersion by one holding the proper priesthood authority of God. That priesthood authority was lost when the apostles of Jesus Christ were killed, but was restored to Joseph Smith. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints holding the priesthood can perform the baptism necessary for salvation. Show more Show less
