Hi I'm Raulon Van Tassell

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a newly married college student. My wife and I are actually now trying to save some money by living with her parents. College is pretty tough! I have been taking some crazy Chemistry classes and they are "taking me to school." Sometimes I have a hard time knowing what will happen with my life in the long run as far as a career goes but I at least know that I have family that loves me and all want me to succeed. I grew up on a family farm (I'm 3rd generation) and there I learned some of life's most valuable lessons at a young age. There I grew learning hard work and about the meaning of sacrifice. But I had lots of fun too (and still do). I do as much as I can to make the most of my life and make my family proud. As far as hobbies... Well there is a lot that I like to do. Snowboarding, paintballing, playing sports like football and basketball (I played a little football in High School, I also pole vaulted and ran the 400m relay). I like to shoot big guns... Playing the piano, playing board games with family and talking about current events. I love my country and I am proud to be an American.

Why I am a Mormon

Well, I grew up going to church and being involved in the church. I had been taught the principles as early as I can remember. You are right if your thought of me is that I had never really experienced another ideology. But if you think that truth is exclusive to those who have "tried" other things you are mistaken. I have come to know for myself through the power of the Holy Ghost that these things are true. I have experienced for myself the tender feelings that the Spirit of the Lord grants to those who are sincere seekers of truth. I know that "by the power of the Holy Ghost, ye may know the truth of all things." (Moroni 10:6) I have felt and know the power of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. I have felt the cleansing power of His atoning blood. 'I stand all amazed at the love Jesus offers me' and 'tremble to know that for me he was crucified.' I have come to know that this church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is the kingdom that God has established on the earth to prepare for the second coming of the Savior Jesus Christ. If we abide by its laws and follow the prophet and apostles, we will never be deceived through the devil's cunning. Joseph Smith recognized the truths that were lost and distorted and through the gift and mercy of God, saw with his eyes, the bodies of our Creator and His Son Jesus Christ. He heard, with his ears, their voices. They and he spoke together as one man speaks to another. These truths are what compel my spirit. I cannot forsake them. I know them to be true.

How I live my faith

First and foremost, the greatest assignment to serve in the church was that of a missionary. I had many wonderful experiences where I saw others come to know for themselves the truths of the gospel. I met many wonderful people with whom I still share fond relationships with. As of currently I am a scout leader for the 11yr olds in our boundaries. It has been fun to get to know these boys and other leaders. Other than that I simply go to church on Sundays, pay tithes and offerings, visit other members of the congregation, and do my best to prepare myself and my family to partake of the sacrament each week.
