Hi I'm Reese

I'm a physicist, a composer, and a disciple of Jesus Christ. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in physics from Brigham Young University. I love playing piano, organ, and violin. I enjoy singing too. Classical music is my favorite. I really enjoy learning just about everything. I like to know how things work. I served as a missionary for the LDS church in Thailand. I will start working on my Physics Ph.D. next fall.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are Mormons and so they taught me to live according to the teachings of Jesus Christ. For many years I simply believed and obeyed. The gospel and teachings of Jesus Christ have always made sense to me. Eventually though, I realized that I needed to know for myself that this church isn't just good, but that it really is the Church of Jesus Christ, established again on the earth. The Book of Mormon has helped me the most in obtaining this knowledge. I have come to know that this church really is Christ's church by reading the Book of Mormon daily, attending church, and praying, and then asking God if the Book of Mormon is true and if this church is His. I have felt His love and know that He has answered my prayer. I did not become converted to Christ's gospel in a moment, but I have received a confirmation of the testimony I have built from diligently studying and praying. I promise that if you want to know if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true, you can, by reading the Book of Mormon and praying with the intention to act on the answer you receive.

How I live my faith

I go to church every Sunday. It is a very uplifting experience. Whenever I pray, study the scriptures, or attend church meetings I receive guidance and the spiritual strength to do what is right. I need this help from God every week. It is very important for me to read from the Book of Mormon, pray, and write in my journal every day. I also set other goals for myself and in general try my best to live by the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There is always room for improvement. My faith in Jesus Christ and love for my family motivate me to do my very best to serve others and be a good influence in the world. My mission has been a very meaningful to me and is by far the best thing I have ever done. The most valuable thing in the world is to teach the truth and live by it.

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

Reese
I have wondered many many times about what our most fundamental purpose is. I still not convinced that I really know the full answer. From studying the words of the prophets, both living and deceased, I believe that our purpose is deeply tied to our identity as children of God, and our relationship with Him, and our relationships with each other. Our Heavenly Father wants us to be happy, and He knows the way to obtain the greatest happiness. He has provided this way for us to follow and we have thus far chosen to follow it. Our life on earth is simply a short, but important span of time in which we choose to either continue to follow our Father's way to happiness, or depart from it and eventually receive some lesser degree of happiness than we could have received. To summarize then, the purpose of life is to follow God's plan of happiness. Show more Show less
