Hi I'm Jay

I'm a husband and father. I'm also a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a working husband and father to three lovely step daughters. I try to be well-rounded and encourage my children to do the same. I love all sports (especially basketball), enjoy outdoor activities, always have a book I'm reading, play the guitar (occasionally), and like to try new things. Most of all I love spending time and sharing experiences with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents worked hard to instill strong beliefs and good morals in me and my siblings. Once I left home to be on my own I understood why. Life can be challenging and there are a lot of negative influences out there. I have found that living the gospel of Jesus Christ not only makes me happy but it makes life easier. Now that I have children of my own I want them to be prepared to take on the challenges and difficulties that they'll face in life. The best preparation is knowing who you are and what Heavenly Father's plan for you is.

How I live my faith

I try to incorporate gospel teachings into all aspects of my life. At home I lead my family in daily prayer and scripture study. My wife and I try to create an environment where our children can learn how to apply gospel principles in their lives. In the community I try to participate in service projects such as cleaning neighborhood parks, volunteering at my children's school, and just generally being a good neighbor. Our family regularly looks for opportunities to make treats and take them to our friends and neighbors. Working a full-time job I spend a majority of my day at work. I try to be an example of my beliefs by being true to my work, working hard, and displaying honest and ethical behavior. I also have lots of opportunities to volunteer at church. I work with our local full-time missionaries, I organize group sessions with people who want to learn more about the gospel, I coordinate and help teach a Sunday school class on basic gospel principles, and get to help plan other special activities such as covert baptisms and trips to our local temple.

Are Mormons Christians?

Jay
One of the biggest misconceptions about Mormons is that we are not Christians. The official name of the church is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and we believe that he is our Savior and Redeemer. We are recognized by the nickname "Mormon" because of the Book of Mormon which is a book of scripture comparable to the Bible. The Book of Mormon contains a historical account of people and prophets that lived on the American continent at a similar time period as the Bible. It is highlighted with an account of Christ's visit to them after his death and resurrection in Jerusalem. We belive that Christ was choosen before this life to be the Savior of all men, that he is God's Only Begotten Son, and that he took upon himself the sins and suffering of all mankind. He lived the perfect life in showing us what we need to do to return to live with God and the primary focus of the gospel is trying to learn about and emulate him in our lives. It is only because of him and through him that we have the opportunity to live in the presence of God after this life if we fulfill all that is required of us in this life. Show more Show less
