Hi I'm Sondra

I am a missionary serving in Argentina. I love philosophy, writing, literature, and my family! I am a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a 20 year-old student majoring in Middle Eastern Studies and Arabic. I love learning, reading great literature & philosophy, traveling, and writing. I want to help create peace in the Middle East, revolutionize the art of writing, and become an exotic chocolatier! I have 5 brothers and two sisters that I adore, and I hope to someday get married in the temple and raise a righteous family of my own.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a Mormon, but I've always had the decision whether or not to live my faith. I've studied other religions, but these studies have only made me more solid in my faith. The Mormon church is the only church that claims a living prophet and continued revelation from God. The principles are simple and clear. They make sense. More importantly, I feel God's love every time I read the scriptures, and I know when I follow the counsel of the prophets that the commandments are inspired and truly bring me happiness. I have many atheist friends, Muslim friends, and friends from other Christian sects who question my values and beliefs. Many of my scientific minded friends are embarrassed by even the mention of "faith" and try to dissuade me from my convictions. But there is a joy and a powerful assurance of God's approval when living the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know it's true, more than I know anything, and it blesses me daily.

How I live my faith

The gospel of Jesus Christ is a gospel of love and service. I pray for service opportunities, and look for ways to share God's love with others. Really, God's love for me and the knowledge that I can become like him influences every aspect of my life. I strive for honesty and punctuality at work. I work hard in school, as prophets have encouraged. I spend time with my family. I share the gospel with anyone willing to listen! Because it has brought me so much joy, and I know it's true, I want to share it with others. When I mess up (daily), I pray for forgiveness. And this is one of the most comforting aspects of the gospel. I know that as long as I do my best, Jesus Christ will make up for the rest. Because of him, repentance and progression is possible.

What is the First Vision?

The first vision was the appearance of God the Father and His son, Jesus Christ, to Joseph Smith as a 14-year-old boy. Joseph went into a grove of trees to pray, because he was confused about the differing sects of Christianity and wanted to know the truth. He had read in James 1:5: "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God." So he asked God. Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ came to him as two separate beings, with bodies of flesh and bone. One of them spoke to the other and said, "This is my beloved son. Hear him." The other spoke and told Joseph that none of the sects were true, that they draw near unto Him with their lips but their hearts are far from them. This marvelous vision began the restoration of Christ's gospel on the earth today, restoring the pure and simple truths of His eternal plan for us. Show more Show less
