Hi I'm Dan

I founded a software company and am an adult convert. The gospel and my family are the two best things in my life.

About Me

I run a software company and travel the world on business. I have 5 kids and a wonderful wife. I have an MBA from the Cal State system. I live in Palos Verdes, California. My hobbies include hiking, biking, martial arts, weight lifting, and SCUBA diving.

Why I am a Mormon

In the late 80’s I saw my life was not what it should be. I had a lot of fun and the material things in life but that I didn’t have true joy in my life. I worked with some Mormons and, while I thought they were somewhat unusual since they didn’t smoke, drink or swear, I noticed they were all very nice people and seemed to have things I did not. I knew I needed something so I purchased a bible and saw a Book of Mormon on the book shelf. I realized I could get one for free so I called the missionaries, probably both for someone to talk to (I was lonely although I probably didn’t realize it at the time) and to get the free book.. The missionaries taught me to pray, something I had never done before. At first I felt awkward and didn’t know anyone was hearing my prayers. But I had committed to pray so I continued. I didn’t take anything on faith so it took me several months to know that the Church was the right thing for me. I still recall my astonishment and excitement as I started to realize for myself that things were not “coincidences” and that God heard and answered my prayers. I recall like yesterday when, while on my knees praying and asking the Lord to “hit me on the head with a 2 x 4” if he was real because I couldn’t do this based on faith. And He did, in a way I could not deny was from Him. Once I knew that God was real and was getting answers to prayer I began asking about the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. I had not even really studied the bible or had any knowledge of Christianity before this. Again, after some time I received an answer that I could not deny that the Book of Mormon really was the word of God and another testament of Jesus Christ. When I committed to be baptized I had changed my life for the better in many ways. But again, looking back, I can see that I have grown in so many ways, thanks to the Church itself, the influences of the many amazing members, the influences of studying scriptures and praying and my opportunities to serve myself.. Today I can say I KNOW that God lives, that Jesus is the Christ and that there is a prophet on earth today just like in times of old. I don’t just think it or hope it but I have had confirmation in so many ways that I know it. I still have challenges in my life but “what a wonderful life” I have.

How I live my faith

My faith impacts every aspect of my life. I try to be honest in my dealings, kind to all, and to show the love Christ has for all of us through my thoughts and actions. I serve the 31+ singles in my area and help coordinate some of the local Church affairs. I have served as paster (Bishop) of a congregation and had many other wondeful assignments..

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

I recall when I first started learning about the Church asking if Mormons celebrated Christmas. I was told this is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints", that Jesus was the at center of our Church and of course we celebrated His birth. Show more Show less
