Hi I'm Walter Nichols

I joined the Church at 18. I am the only member of my family to join the Church even after 30 years! I love the Gospel!

About Me

I joined the Church when i was 18 years old. None of my extended family are members. I have had a lot of opposition from them but have found that being a member of the Church has blessed my life in so many ways that I would never have experienced in any other way. When I was 19 I went on a Mission to England. I returned home and became a seminary teacher. I am currently an Institute director and love life! We have five Children. we lost our oldest son when 18 years old. It was one of the most difficult experiences of my entire life but also one of the sweetest experiences. We now have had 2 of the other children go on Missions. All four the other children are either in College or have graduated from College. It has been wonderful to raise my own family in the gospel. I think living the gospel makes all the difference to every happy family.

Why I am a Mormon

I met a young Latter-Day Saint in high school who really lived her standards. She impressed me because she was very different from other girls I had dated. I felt the Holy Ghost very powerfully when I took the discussions that I knew the Church was true even though my family was very opposed to it. I found that once I had made the decision to join the Church my family were angry about the decision. My parents divorced when I was six. I grew up with my Mom and when I told her I was going to join the Church she was so angry with me that she asked me to find somewhere else to live. My Father told me that he no longer wanted to talk to me. My friends told me that they wanted nothing more to do with me if I was going to be a Mormon. I was baptized three weeks after my first discussion and I have never regretted that decision once! I know that Jesus is my Savior. I know that He is alive today! I know that we live in the days of living Prophets and Holy Apostles. I know that I have felt very powerfully the influence the gifts and powers of the Holy Ghost. I know that the scriptures teach divine truths that will help me return to live with my Father in Heaven. I know that Joseph Smith really did see the Father and the Son in the sacred grove. I am so thankful for the power of the great Redeemer. He has saved me from so many mistakes in my life. He is my Savior, my Master, my Lord. I know these things because of so many experiences with the Holy Ghost. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ amen.

How I live my faith

While my children were growing up I tried to be involved in their lives by being baseball coach, basketball coach, church referee, and helped sell things for my kids at baseball games. I tried to support them as often as i could. I have served in many callings. Young Men, Bishopric and High Council. I have loved seeing growth take place in many of the families I have been a home teacher for! I have been teaching high school age youth for the last 25 years. I understand them very, very well. I have taught college age youth now for the past six years as well.
