Hi I'm Sam

I was born in Calif USA, but have spent most of my life in Oregon. I don't have moss between my toes but I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am just a guy who loves his family, loves his religion, and enjoys everyday. I have endured broken bones, cancer, heartache and joy. Prior to more recent times, I have enjoyed hunting and golf. I have run 5 marathons and participated in the "worlds longest run relay" for 20 years. But as things come and go, abilities change, my family has remained consistant. I love the saying "Come what may and Love it". I have it written on my whiteboard in our office. I am far from perfect, but it remains the goal.

Why I am a Mormon

Through a host of challenges, three things have become perfectly clear to me. One, the Atonement of Jesus Christ is personal. He atoned for me! All my doings, sayings, thoughts, and everything in between. And not just the action. The intent of the action, the premise. The Atonement is all inclusive. Two, the Plan of Salvation is perfect! No flaws, hick-ups or the like. I have a clear knowledge of where I came from, why I am here, and where I hope to go. Three, the Book of Mormon is true. It is indeed the cornerstone of my faith. Reading it completely and then referring to it often will enforce the Old and New Testaments. I have put James 1:5-6 and Moroni 10:3-5 to the test.

How I live my faith

I serve in my ward as an assistant clerk. I love working with the members. I also serve in our local temple with the youth. I love my home teacher. I am grateful to exercise my membership as a home teacher. I enjoy the families I visit and we learn together. I certainly receive as much as I give. I live my faith by trying to follow the example Jesus Christ made for us by serving because I want to, not because I have to.

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

The purpose of life is to return to our Heavenly Father. To "return" implies that is where we began. Once here, we have the opportunity everyday to make choices. If we make bad choices, we have the Atonement. It provides the opportunity to be forgiven. As we make good choices, we progress in our goal. Some call it the "Plan of Salvation". Others call it the "Plan of Exaltation". Some would argue it is the same. It is not! We are all promised we will gain salvation. Yep, just for being. The greater challenge is to be exalted. We grow everyday. We grow by being obediant to the commandments and covenants we make. That is why I am here. Show more Show less
