Hi I'm Rhett

I'm a native Arizonian. I love going to the lake! I am a HUGE ASU football fan!! I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I was born in and raised in Arizona where my family and I still live. I am the oldest of 6 3 brothers and 2 sisters. In high school, I was big into sports Football was the main focus mixed in with some wrestling and track. I graduated high school with an associates of science degree before moving on the Arizona State University. I chose to take a 2 year leave from school to go and serve a mission in South Dakota. I'm now back to good ol Arizona working my way towards medical school. I love the outdoors. I love my friends and family. I love Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I have the best parents in the world who helped me growing up to know Christ. They taught me the way to go and how following Christ would bring me happiness in my life. There came the time that I either had to continue to choose to follow those principles or not. I realized then, through trial and error, that the only way to happiness was through Christ. I developed a knowledge that this really is His church on the earth today; It was restored through a living prophet named Joseph Smith. My service as a missionary strengthened that knowledge that I had. The Book of Mormon has been a critical tool for me, and can be for all, to know that Joseph Smith was that prophet called by Christ. That knowledge came through the feelings of the Holy Ghost as I prayed sincerely to know the things that I should do and the way that I should go. This restored church of Christ has been the greatest blessing to myself and my family. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer. I know the Book of Mormon is true. I know Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and that we have a living prophet today to lead and guide us, namely President Thomas S. Monson.

How I live my faith

I think love is the best word to describe how I best live my faith. I definitely can't say I'm perfect, but living my faith for me means loving others the way that Christ would love them and treating them that way. If everyone could have Christlike love for one another, this world would transform into a wonderful place of peace and happiness.

How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

Rhett
The Book of Mormon contains the fulness of the gospel, as does the Bible. The primary difference between this additional scripture and the Bible are its orgins. The Book of Mormon is a record of the ancient inhabitants of the american continents. These people lived long before Columbus discovered the americas during the time period of approximately 600 BC- 400 AD. They were led by the Lord through prophets who taught of Christ, just as in the Bible. They also had the blessing of being taught by Christ himself shortly after His resurrection and ascension into heaven discussed in the New Testament. These prophets wrote down the things that were revealed to them as well as the words that Christ spoke while He was there. This collection of writings eventually made its way into the hands of the last prophet and righteous man in that civilzation named Moroni son of Mormon. Before his death, the Lord commanded him to bury that record which was recorded on gold plates. When Joseph Smith was told by Christ that he was to reestablish Christ's original church, he was also given another responsibility. An angel appeared to Joseph and directed him to the buried record. Josepth Smith translated the record through the power of God into English for us today. The Book of Mormon has two main purposes. First, the witness to the world that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. Second, to testify that Joseph Smith was called of God to restore His church on the earth today. Show more Show less
