Hi I'm Catherine

I am a wife, a sister to 6, a runner, a nurse practitioner, a dreamer, a traveler, and a lover of ice cream. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I love folk music, all things latin, being barefoot, spending time in nature and spending time with my husband and family. I served as a missionary in Spokane, WA, Venezuela and Aruba. I enjoy serving and learning about other cultures. This has opened up my mind to the beauty and power of all people and cultures.

Why I am a Mormon

I was introduced to the faith by my parents, who raised me with the values and principles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. While it was kind of routine as a child to follow these values, there came a time in my high-school years in which I questioned whether I really believed it and wanted to follow it for myself. I began to read the Book of Mormon on my own and, through prayer, I received peace and confidence from the Holy Spirit that the things I had been taught by my parents were true. Since then, my beliefs in these truths have been re-confirmed on a regular basis. Through living the principles of the gospel, I find happiness and peace. I find meaning in difficult experiences. I find purpose in this life and know that there is meaning and perspective beyond the here and now.

How I live my faith

I strive to live my faith on a daily basis. I read from the words of scripture and pray regularly to know how I can become a better citizen, sister, daughter, house mate, nurse practitioner, and friend. On Sundays, I participate in church meetings and classes and I try to dedicate myself more fully to holy thoughts and actions. I serve voluntarily as a leader and teacher in the women's organization in my congregation. In my interactions with others, I seek to be merciful, loving, patient and forgiving. I have trust and gratitude in a greater power beyond my own and I seek that power in my thoughts and actions. When I fear or doubt, I seek the confidence from Christ. When, I make mistakes, I seek forgiveness and try to overcome through Christ.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

The Atonement of Jesus Christ is the pivotal act of love that makes it possible for us to have true freedom and joy. It is the power through which we can overcome our physical and spiritual weakness to become an immortal and eternally happy being. This was made possible through Christ's suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross. In a way incomprehensible to us, he paid the price for our mistakes, errors and sins. He overcame both sin and death for every being that has ever lived. It was necessary for Christ to sacrifice His life because it was the only way for us to overcome sin and death. Christ, as a son of God, was the only being to ever live a perfect life, which made his offering infinite and eternal, sufficient to cover all of us as imperfect people. If we accept His atonement and have faith in Him, repenting and seeking change through His power and through baptism and the power of His Spirit, we can be made pure and holy and live forever with Him in true happiness. How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Faith in Christ grows as we struggle to overcome mistakes, addictions and sins through His power and grace. It comes as we live truths found in the spoken and written words of prophets and apostles. Faith increases by exercising faith and by replacing doubt and fear with confidence in God. It increases through reflecting on life experiences with a mind and heart open to seeing how Christ has strengthened and blessed you. Show more Show less
