Hi I'm Austin

I'm helping people around Philly have better lives. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Canada. My family had six kids, so family has always been something that's important to me. In high school I played a bit of soccer, and the French horn. I really loved theatrical productions, as well as learning a new language. I also loved to learn and to teach, especially physics. I noticed how much I needed to feel like I was working on something to be happy. I was offered a scholarship for undergraduate studies and after a year of that I decided to serve the Lord by serving His children. I am currently serving in the Pennsylvania Philadelphia vicinity and love being able to help other people.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents decided to join this church before I was born. I was taught God's Truths all my life, and grew up being told where I came from before I was born, who I was, where I wanted to be someday, and how to get there. Despite this, I still had to know for myself if what my parents had taught me was true for me. When I was about fourteen years old, I wanted something that I felt only God could really give me. I decided to try asking Him for it. Throughout my life I had said "prayers," but I never really felt like I had talked with God, or gotten an answer from Him. When I prayed this time, I started by simply asking, "God, are you there?" I felt a warmth in my heart, which from the teachings of my parents I knew to be the Holy Ghost. I continued to ask if what I had been taught was true, and the other questions that were important to me then. To each came an immediate answer through the power and peace of the Holy Ghost. After that, I knew it was true, but I have had to constantly refresh my faith by studying the Word of God, especially in the Book of Mormon, a testament of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving God and His children as a missionary. I am able to focus all my time on this service for the period of two years. In these two years, I prayerfully seek how best to help those around me. Most often this includes teaching the message of the restored gospel, which allows people to be self sufficient on their search for true and lasting happiness. I also do things like helping people move, clean and repair their houses, and whatever else they need at the time. Basically my purpose is to invite people to come closer to Jesus Christ by doing all I can to invite the Holy Ghost into their lives and to help them learn to follow it. At the beginning of my mission, I served in Wilmington, Delaware for about four months. Then I went down to Salisbury, Maryland and the area around it for about six months. Now I am serving in Chester, Pennsylvania. Each Sunday I help those who we work with to keep the sabbath day holy, so they can enjoy the blessings God has promised for obedience to that commandment, while I too keep the sabbath holy and am also blessed. Each day, before I begin my service, I prayerfully study God's word to help my faith to be strong for the challenges I face, and this has made all the difference.

What is the Book of Mormon?

Austin
Many people think the Book of Mormon is the handbook on how to be a Mormon, containing the rules and regulations. Others think the Book of Mormon is another translation, or version, of the Bible. Still others think it is an addition to the Bible. However, the Book of Mormon is another witness that Jesus is the Christ. The stories, events, and characters in the Book of Mormon are different than those in the Bible. The teachings of Christ are found in the Book of Mormon, on every page, stated very simply, so that even children can understand them. It stands independant of the Bible's support, but it and the Bible work together, and not in competition, to support the faith in Christ every child of God needs. Show more Show less
