Hi I'm Doug

I like to wakeboard, waterski, wake surf, and anything else you can do behind a boat. I am a chemical engineer. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I grew up in Idaho. I love the outdoors. One thing that I love to do is to go boating. If I had a choice I would spend everyday at the lake. I also love tennis, football, basketball, raquetball, golf, and video games. I'd rather be out doing than sitting. I'm a senior in college studying chemical engineering. I want to work in the energy industry. Most of all, I love my family. I was recently married to my wife Brooke and it is so fun experiencing life together. I find the most joy in being with her and the rest of our family.

Why I am a Mormon

I've grown up being a mormon, but everyone is still a convert. I had to gain my own testimony of this church for myself. One day in my teens I questioned the beliefs in which my parents had. I had to find out for myself if these things were true. I turned to the Book of Mormon. I read the Book of Mormon everynight. Each night I got on my knees and prayed to ask God if the Book of Mormon was the word of God. One of the nights, I knelt to pray about the Book of Mormon. This night was different. I was afraid that I wouldn't recieve an answer. I prayed so hard, pleading that God would let me know what I should do. I remember a peace coming over me that I couldn't deny. It was a confirmation from the Holy Ghost. Everything fell into place. I knew the Book of Mormon was true. It has brought peace and contentment in my life. I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God. And because I know that, I know that Joseph Smith Jr. was a prophet. He translated the Book through the power of God. I know that there is a prophet today, Thomas Monson, who recieves direction from God for the world. If I follow the prophet today I will be safe through these troubled times. Its because of this knowledge that I want to share this feeling with others.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving and loving God's children. I feel closest to God as I look to help others around me. Jesus Christ set the perfect example of service in his mortal life. Right now, my wife and I serve as ward missionaries so we are able to share the gospel with those around us. Getting to work with those people who are new to the church or are returning to church is an amazing experience. We are able to see the hand of God in there life as they began to draw closer to God. I also study God's word to us from the scriptures and from our modern day prophets and apostles so that I can understand and teach others about it.

Why is family so important to Mormons?

Doug
Family has always been a part of God's plan. We lived before this mortal life with God. We were all brothers and sisters. One big heavenly family. In this life we are sent to families. They are there to support us and to help us along the road of life. In the temples, we may be sealed to our families for eternity. This is done through the priesthood authority of God. We can be with our family past death. Through our faithfulness and obedience to the Gospel of Jesus Christ these promises can become reality. This is my great hope for this life, to be sealed with my wonderful family for eternity. This is why families are so important to Mormons. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

Doug
This question can best be answered in relating the experience of Joseph Smith. Many other faiths suggest that God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are one being. This was declared in some of the creeds after Christ's church. Joseph Smith however learned the true nature of God after seeing his first vision as a young 14 year boy. He said, "I saw two personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other, 'This is my beloved son, hear Him!" He knew that Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father were two separate beings. For he saw them! They are "one" in purpose. You can know the true nature of God as you read and pray about the Book of Mormon. If the Book of Mormon is true, then Joseph Smith was a prophet of God because he translated it through the power of God. I know that Joseph Smith saw the God the Father and Jesus Christ! Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are separate distinct beings who are the means for our salvation. Show more Show less
