Hi I'm Brent

I grew up in Minnesota. I'm a weed scientist, a father, and I love tractors and farm machinery. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I grew up on a farm in southern Minnesota in a family with twelve kids. Being one of the youngest I learned how to adapt and get along. I loved being part of a large family and to this day we all still love to get together. When I was 19 I left home to serve a two year mission in Taiwan. It was a fantastic experience. I not only learned Mandarin but gained a love and appreciation for another culture. I love being close to the land and obtained a Ph.D. in Agronomy specializing in weed science. I enjoy doing agricultural research and started my own contract research company in 2007. Now I spend my summers doing tests with a wide variety of crops and adapting machinery for specialized research. I have been married to a wonderful woman since '82 and we have six children. I love them lot more than the old farm machinery I play with, even though they may question that sometimes.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a Mormon home. My mother's family have been Mormons for generations, but my father converted from Lutheranism as a young man. Through my parents example and teachings I developed a strong love for this church and it's doctrine. I know that there is no better way for me to get closer to my Father-in-Heaven that by following the commandments and precepts of his true gospel. Growing up in a community with very few Mormons around, I had to decide in my youth as to what my beliefs would be and what kind of a representative of those belief''s I would become. I found that once you know the truth and understand the fullness of the gospel as found in the Mormon chuch, it is easy to stand up for those beliefs. I love this church and know it be true.

How I live my faith

For most of my adult live I have found myself being called to positions of leadership with in this church, even though I have never sought or desired those positions. I presently serve as the Bishop of the St. Cloud, MN ward ministering to the needs of the local membership. I consider it to be a great priviledge as well as a humbling experience to serve my Heavenly Father. I feel of His love, support and blessings every day. I do my best to be a good example of friendship, service, integrity and honesty to those around me. These are traits I vallue in others, so I must reflect them in my own life. I love my family and do my best to provide for them physically, spiritually, emotionally and morally.
