Hi I'm Billy

I live in Eastern NC and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in eastern North Carolina and lived most of by life here. I worked as a Firefighter for 33 years for a large Marine Corps Air Station and retired as Assistant Fire Chief. We have 3 children and 8 grandchildren. We love visiting and doing things with our grandchildren as will as our children. I enjoy reading and playing golf. I also like to do woodwork around the house and for other people.

Why I am a Mormon

Several years ago while in High School, I met a young girl that invited me to go to a dance activity with her and some other friends. All of these people belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After a few more dates to this same type of activities, I was invited to attend their Sunday services. I was given a Book of Mormon ,which I started reading immediately. I also started reading A Marvelous Work and Wonder and The Miracle of Forgiveness. Although I never had any discussions from the missionaries, the family of this young girl, who is now my wife, was a great influence on me and helped me in my decision to join the church. Through the following years, I have served in many callings Sunday School teacher, Aaronic Priesthood quorums advisors , High Council member, Bishop, Executive Secretary to the Stake President and now High Priest Group Leader. I once thought just saying I believe the Church is true was enough of a testimony. However, because of all the experiences I have had, I now am able to say I KNOW the Church is true. I know we have a Living Prophet in President Thomas S. Monson, that Joseph Smith was and is a Prophet of God, that Jesus is the Christ and lives today. The Book of Mormon is the Word of God given to us today to guide us back to our Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

Currently I am serving as High Priest Group Leader in our ward area. Previous to this calling I served as Executive Secretary to our Stake. In this calling I was able to travel with the Stake Presidency to the other units wards in our Stake and get to meet many people. I have met many lifelong friends and will ever cherish our friendship. I served as the Bishop of our Ward for eight years. I can truly say that I enjoyed this calling. I have served as Scout Master and served on the Scout Committee. My wife now serves as the President of the women's organization in our Ward and is actively engaged in helping others. There are times I get to help her and others with her service.  I find much joy in serving our Heavenly Father. I know when we are in the service of our fellow man, we are only in the service of our God. I know with all my heart I belong to His gospel that has been restored in the latter days. I have truly been blessed to have found the gospel in my life.
