Hi I'm Carter

I'm a husband, father , son , friend and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I have been married for almost 20 years. I have 3 children, ages 13, 11 and 5. I enjoy spending time with my family. My wife and I love to travel. I like to fish, watch sports and play golf. I love music and I sing whenever I get a chance.

Why I am a Mormon

My mom was born into the church and my dad joined the church when he was in his early 20's. They raised me as a Mormon and I was baptized when I was 8 years old. When I was in my teens, I decided that I really needed to decide for myself if I thought the teachings of the church were true. This was especially true as I was trying to decide whether or not I should serve as a missionary for two years. I read the Book of Mormon and began to really pray about whether or not it is a true book of scripture. I also prayed to know whether or not Joseph Smith was a true prophet. After several days of reading and praying, I felt as though I was receiving an answer. I just felt good about what I was reading. In my heart, I began to feel as though the things I had been taught most of my life were true. Since that time, I have had many confirmations that The Book of Mormon is scripture and that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that he translated the book, just as he said he did. I know that God lives and that he loves me. I know that His son, Jesus Christ, came to Earth. I know he lived, died for me on the cross and resurrected on the third day. I know He paid the price for my sins and made it possible for me to repent and be clean. I believe that true happiness only comes as we become clean. I know there is a living prophet on the Earth today and that he serves with 12 apostles. The Book of Mormon is a true book of scripture and I have grown closer to the Savior as I have read it. I know that everyone can gain a testimony of these things, if they will read and ask God.

How I live my faith

I currently serve as a bishop in my area. I have responsibility for a congregation of about 450 people. People ask me why I am willing to spend so much of my time and effort performing the tasks I perform without getting paid. I explain to them that I feel it is important to serve where I am asked to serve. I most enjoy working with the youth of the church. They are amazing! Prior to serving as bishop, I taught early morning seminary to high school age youth at 6:00 AM. The seminary students attend seminary every day before school. In the Mormon Church, living your religion means a lot more than going to church on Sunday. Being Mormon impacts how I live my life on a daily basis. I am a better person, because I try to live as Christ would have me live. I believe that I treat my family better, am a better employee and a better friend than I would be if I did not try to live the gospel of Jesus Christ every day.
