Hi I'm Marie Elizabeth

I am a grandmother of 13. I love genealogy and I am happy to say that I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Dublin, Ireland and came to live in America in 1962. I returned to Ireland in 1969 and that is where I met the Missionaries and joined the Church. I was raised Catholic and it was not an easy decision to make to change religions but after being a member for nealy 40 years I have never had a regret about my decision. I love the Church and the knowledge that I have gained through my membership plus the wonderful friendships that I have gained.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised Catholic in Ireland so my conversion was not readily accepted by my family. When the Missionaries knocked on my door and taught me the first discussion I was converted almost on the spot. As I read the literature that they left with me I realized that what I was reading made so much sense. I was baptized three weeks later on October 5th, 1972. I have had many tests of my faith since that time but I have held on to my belief that I have a Father in Heaven who knows me and loves me. I have had many experiences that testify of that truth. I have a Savior who is Jesus Christ. He came to earth and gave His life for me and I am eternally grateful to Him for that. Because of Him if I live worthily I may one day be able to live with my Father in Heaven and with my Savior Jesus Christ. There is much more to the Gospel but those are the two basic facts that I can testify of and know without a shadow of a doubt that they are true. I love the Gospel and I have no idea where I would be in my life without it. It sustains me through trials, heartache and loss. It gives me joy and comfort every day of my life.

How I live my faith

My faith is so much a part of my life that it is hard to define it. I attend Church every Sunday and I teach a group of sixteen to eighteen year old girls. They are wonderful and it gives me great hope for the future to know that we have such great youth who will one day be leaders in our community. I love to go visiting teaching. It is a program where we go to the home of three or four ladies each month. We teach them a spiritual lesson and check on them to make sure that all is well in their lives. If there are problems that we can help with then we are there for them. I also have visiting teachers who do the same for me. I enjoy going out with the missionaries when I have that opportunity. I love talking about the Church so it is not hard to meet new people and share the gospel with them. I read from the scriptures each day, alone and with my family. I work on genealogy and I am working as a volunteer to enter census, birth, marriage etc records on to the computer so that they will be available for all those who are interested in genealogy work. That covers a small part of how I live my faith.

Are Mormons Christians?

Marie Elizabeth
Mormons are followers of Jesus Christ. He is our Lord and our Savior. We follow His teachings. The name of our Church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We are called Mormons because we believe in the Book of Mormon but we would prefer people to know that we are indeed Christians. Show more Show less

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

Marie Elizabeth
Personally the blessings that I receive is guidance. We have so many decisions that we have to make everyday of our lives. Some of them are minor but some of them require a little help. We may be faced with more than one answer to a problem or decision and it's hard to know which way to go. That is when I turn for guidance to the Holy Ghost. He won't make the decision for me but he will confirm to me whether I am making the right decision or not. If I feel good about my choice then I will have received my confirmation but if I feel confused or unsure about my decision then I know that I am going in the wrong direction. That is the Holy Ghost working in my life. Show more Show less
