Hi I'm Julia Graddon

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a Project Manager in software engineering research and development. I work full time at work and full time at home. I have two daughters and 2 step-sons and 1 step-daughter at home, and a dog and 6 guinea pigs. I divorced my first husband after a 9 year marraige and subsequently remarried in 2009. I love to be outside gardening - half of our garden is effectively and allotment with strawberries, rhubarb, potatoes, beans, courgettes and peas in abundance. We try other crops too with varying success - this years experiment is sweetcorn and brussel sprouts. The former I love and am hopeful, but brussel sprouts are not my thing and I won't be too disappointed if they fail. In case I am left with too much free time, I am also studying for a degree with the open university in computer sciences and management skills. I do like to be busy and challenged - it does mean that those days when things are quiet I can really enjoy!

Why I am a Mormon

I had been unsure of my beliefs for many years and so chose to ignore the whole thing for a long time. Eventually I decided I needed to know more - many people are certain in their beliefs, whatever they may be, and such a high proportion of the population believing in a God of some sort can't all be wrong, was my thinking at the time. Having tried and failed to make contact with many churches, I threw in the towel and decided that it wasn't meant to be, or if it was then it would happen in it's own way. Within days two young men knocked on the door asking if I had questions - I welcomed them in and started asking! I was uncomfortable and embarassed at first - I had never prayed alone and did not have a clue how or where to start. I had no idea where to start with anything. I started learning and have not stopped since. I felt the Lord's love for me and our Prohet, Thomas S Monson's love for me - yes, for me! Little insignificant, imperfect, weak me! I still feel it. I know that my Heavenly Father knows me as an individual and loves me - and that this is true of everyone. I don't know everyone at work and find it overwhelming that our Heavenly Father knows each and every one of us - but he does and that is great!

How I live my faith

I teach the women in our church once a month and also conduct the congregation for hymns. When I was asked to teach I found the prospect scary - I have very little patience and my teaching ability is less than zero. I now conduct 'guided discussions' and I am convinced that I learn far more than anyone else when I am teaching. I try to find time for reading scriptues every day - it is not always easy and it takes brute force to make myself sometimes, but I feel better from it and learn something from it every time.

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

Julia Graddon
The Holy Ghost is known by many names - as a witness of the truth, as a comforter and as a revelator. The Holy Ghost whispers to our spirits and blesses us by guiding us to the truth and the right path to choose. Show more Show less

Who is the Mormon prophet today?

Julia Graddon
Through the books of the Bible a prophet of God is on the earth. Having a prophet on the earth today proves that god is still the same today as he was then. God does not change. We can still receive his word for us today by revelation and by the prophet. Show more Show less

What are Mormon church services like? Are visitors allowed at church meetings? Can I attend church?

Julia Graddon
Visitors are always welcome. Whilst in our various meetings on a Sunday we learn together and from each other as well as from the Lord. Show more Show less
