Hi I'm Jake

I'm a student, an entrepreneur, a fun-loving guy, and a Mormon.

About Me

I see life as an adventure. With so much to learn and so much to do, I see life as a gift and an opportunity. I'm a curious, adventurous person. I love to learn new things. I play many sports, with my passion being soccer. I started a landscaping business in high school and I love getting my hands dirty building and doing projects. I love to laugh and to make people laugh. I enjoy dancing, singing, video games, and trying new things.

Why I am a Mormon

We live in a confusing, fast-paced world. So many things can distract us from why we are here on earth. I think that each one of us is looking for peace and happiness, but we struggle to find it in the hustle and bustle of life. I have always sought meaning in life. Why am I here? Why am I a unique person, and what do I have to contribute to this world? Since I was a teenager, I asked questions like these. I wanted to know that I have a purpose in life, and I wanted to know what that purpose is and how I can fulfill it. I have always been open-minded to any religion, as I have always believed in God. However, living in the "Bible Belt" only confused me as to the role of religion. Though I was raised as a Mormon, most of my friends were of different faiths. There came a point where I had to know why my religion is different and what that means. I love the Bible, which has given me much knowledge about Jesus Christ and the history of God's prophets. However, I didn't understand why the Bible and Jesus Christ are important until I read the Book of Mormon. This book changed my life. I knew when I read it that it was written by real prophets in the ancient Americas. I learned about the plan that God has for me and learned more about the Savior and the impact that he can have on my life. When I came to know that the Book of Mormon is true, I realized why being a member of this church is so special. It is not a man-made church, but was restored by God for us in these days. I know it is true because I know that God would not leave us in confusion in a tough world. Knowing that the Book of Mormon is true and that God has called a true prophet today gives me hope in myself and in the world around me. I gives me peace.

How I live my faith

I try to not take myself too seriously when it comes to living the gospel of Jesus Christ. I consider myself someone who is sincerely trying to be a good person and to help others, but I often fail. I try to have patience and mercy with others as I hope that they will do with me. I don't think that religion is something to boast of, but I don't think that it is something to hide from others, either. I try to love my family and serve them and help them carry their burdens. I read the scriptures daily (on a good day) and try to have earnest, heartfelt prayers. I feel like scriptures guide me to make good choices and prayer gives me the strength to do so. Honestly, trying to live Christ's teachings isn't easy, as I often fail, but it is definitely worth it.

What is the Book of Mormon?

Jake
It is a journal written by many prophets in the ancient Americas. Mormon is the name of the prophet who put all of the other prophets' writings together in an abridged form. Like the Bible, this book was written to help us in our day to make wise choices. It was written by many prophets, just like the Bible was. They wrote of the challenges, successes, and failures of their people. They recorded their spiritual experiences, miracles, and knowledge of Jesus Christ. They wrote of their wars and hardships. These were men called of God who wrote this book for us. If we learn from the lessons that this civilization learned, we will make good decisions and be happier people. Show more Show less

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

Jake
Every person has different temptations. Homosexuality is no different. It is simply another temptation or sin. Each of us tries to find happiness in life, and some people choose homosexuality to try and do just that. I don't judge those who are homosexual. They are simply tempted in a different way than myself. God's plan for us is centered on the family. Just as he finds joy in being our Father, he wants us to have joy in being parents and having families. This is designed to occur in the male-female marriage. I think understanding the joy of having children is at the heart of understanding why homosexuality is not a part of God's plan. Show more Show less
