Hi I'm Byron

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My wife and I were married in the Seattle Temple in 2008 and now have two beautiful children. They keep our lives interesting and busy, but it's definitely worth the blessings they are to us. For work, I am an advisor at a local community college. I assist students create plans designed to help them achieve their educational goals. Although I'm not currently playing with a group, I enjoy practicing my flute when time permits. Also, my 2-year old son and I enjoy "working" in the yard and going on walks in our neighborhood. During the precious hours between the kids going to bed and sleeping, my wife and I enjoy spending that time together even if it's just cleaning the kitchen or preparing for the next day.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I read The Book of Mormon. By reading the Book of Mormon, I came to know Christ better and how to live His teachings more fully. It didn't all happen at once. Like most things in life, it took time and sincere effort on my part. As I exercised faith in taking the time to read and pray, I began to see positive changes in my life. However, feeling the Spirit more in my life as I read was ultimately what let me know it was true. In the New Testament, Christ teaches how you can know if someone is a true prophet. He taught that "by their fruits ye shall know them." The Book of Mormon was translated by Joseph Smith; it was one of his fruits. By learning for myself that The Book of Mormon was true, I also knew God had called Joseph Smith as a prophet to restore Christ's true church again upon the earth. Like in Christ's original church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is lead under the direction of God the Father and Jesus Christ through a prophet and apostles of the Lord. As I continued to seek answers from the Lord and try to live by His teachings, I am richly blessed. I believe that the closer we come to God, the happier we are. Because I know this is Christ's church, I'm in the best position I can be for me to learn and get the support I need to live by His teachings and develop a personal relationship with Christ.

How I live my faith

Because the Lord's Church is a lay ministry, no one gets paid to serve in the Church. Therefore, everyone has the opportunity to serve each other in church. For example, I've been a Sunday school teacher, secretary, and served in various leadership roles. I also served a two-year, full-time mission in Alabama and Mississippi so I could teach others the things I've learned that have made my life happier. In addition to serving in the Church, I try to live my life and treat others like Christ would. I'm far from perfect, and anyone who knows me could attest to that. However, I know as I strive to follow Christ's example, I'll be in a far better position than if I decided to try and just do things my way.
