Hi I'm Richard Basaker

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a 65 year old Husband, Father, Grandfather, and a Step Great Grandfather. I have been a baker and manager for 40 years. I am still a working husband, and hope to retire in a few years. I enjoy and continue to work on my family's genealogy. It is always a work in progress. My hobbies are surfing, music, hi end audiophile, vinyl record collecting, building audio equipment, and working on computers. My favorite part of my life is spending lots time with my children and grand children, watching them grow in the gospel. I enjoy the gospel in my daily life, and my church callings.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was a senior in High School I was dating a young girl in my school. She was of the Mormon faith, and grew up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. My girl friend had invited me over to her mom & dad's home one Monday night for dinner and a family home evening. This was new to me. I had a great time with her family. My girl friend soon invited me to go to church with her one Sunday morning. That day I recognized some of people there that I knew. Some of the youth I went to school with. One member on the stand was my 5th grade school teacher. This was my first experience at a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Sacrament meeting. I came away with the feeling that I wanted to know more about the church and Jesus Christ, so I took the missionary lessons with my girl friend at my side and my mother also attended these lessons with me. I prayed about what I had learned about Joseph Smith and his first vision, and if the Book of Mormon was true. My prayers were answered. I then knew the gospel was true, and that it was the true church of our Savior Jesus Christ. Soon after the missionary lessons, I wanted to belong to and join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I was soon baptized in April of 1968 and l later married my girl friend for all time and all eternity in the Los Angeles Temple. We have had a great life together for 46 years now, raising our family of four children, and grandchildren. I have been so blessed in my life. I am very active in the church and will always be. I know that if I live a good life and endure to the end I can be with my Heavenly Father, my Savior Jesus Christ , and my family forever. This is our Heavenly Father's plan of Salvation for us, to be a family forever and for all eternity. Families can be FOREVER!

How I live my faith

I read scriptures daily, attend our Church meetings every Sunday. I have had many callings in the church during my 47 years as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. My first calling was and will always be a Home Teacher. I love my families that I home teach, and look forward to visiting with them every month. A Sunday School Teacher, Cub Scout Master, Elders Quorum Secretary, Ward financial clerk, Ward Publicist, Ward Employee Specialist, Ward Executive Secretary, and my current calling is 2nd Counselor in the Colima Ward Bishopric in the Whittier Stake in California.
