Hi I'm John

I'm a Mormon. And I am happy to tell you a bit more about that. First - we believe Jesus Christ is our Savior.

About Me

I am married to a wonderful woman and we have five great children. We recently moved to the South from the New England area and love the friendly welcome we have received. I have run international non-profit organizations and I spent most of my professional life in the high-tech arena. I just received my doctorate in higher education management. I am an avid reader and enjoy comedy, laughing and the quirky movie.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was a small child, my parents got divorced. My mother turned to the church for further support. I enjoyed the church members bringing me into their fold and ensuring I was included. As I got older, it was clear that I needed to understand for myself whether God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ had actually appeared to Joseph Smith in that grove in New York. While it is difficult to explain in any sort of convincing way, I know that God and Jesus did indeed appear to Joseph Smith. The only way I can explain this is that I have felt it in my heart. Praying for a witness from the Spirit and researching the accounts and studying the scriptures provided evidence of my faith to the Lord, and He blessed me with a testimony that these things are true. Most importantly, my testimony of our Savior being exactly that - our Savior - is why I am a Mormon. Without the atonement in my life and the opportunity to exercise it - my life would be largely wasted. With the gift of the Savior's atonement, I can repent and strive to return to our Heavenly Father when my life here on earth is ended.

How I live my faith

I attend church every Sunday, whereever I may be in the world. I pay a tithe on all of my income to the Lord, just as we are directed in the scriptures. I participate in many social and educational activities with my local congregation - and help support those brothers, sisters, and neighbors as needs arise in an attempt to follow our Savior's example.

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

I have friends who are homosexuals and employees who are as well. Just because I believe that homosexuality is a sin, does not prevent me from being friends with those who practice such. However, that does not mean I condone their actions or reject them as sons/daughters for God. I do not hate someone who breaks the speed limit. Both are contrary to law, and it is my prayer that actions not consistant with the teachings of the Savior might be corrected. I am not perfect, and I strive to continue to improve in the areas where I am falling short of the will of the Lord. I hope all will strive to live the commandments more fully. Show more Show less
