Hi I'm Sam

I'm a Seattle area native. I do analytics for an affordable private school provider in Kenya. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the sixth of ten children in my family, and somehow we're all still pretty close. I grew up in the Seattle area and then attended college at BYU. I studied economics and business. There I met my wife and got married. We now have a wonderfully rambunctious two year old son and a sweet little 6 month old baby. Since BYU, we moved to San Francisco where I worked at a consulting firm and a tech company. Now I'm in Kenya on a project before returning back to grad school. I love playing games of all types, board games, sports, video games... you name it! I'm a Seattle Seahawks and a Boston Celtics fan (long story). I like to dance and I love the outdoors. I wear a fanny pack and after years of wearing it, I haven't given up on them making come back. Nothing makes me happier than spending time with my wife and kids. Even though I'm driven to succeed in my career, it's hard for me to be away from family. Sometime I wish I was a stay at home dad!

Why I am a Mormon

The principles of the gospel guide my life in a tremendous way. I grew up learning about them and do my best to apply them. By living in accordance to God's will, I feel peace and assurance that he is please with me. I am a Mormon because I have read the Book of Mormon several times and I feel closer to God each time I do. I know Joseph Smith was called of God.

How I live my faith

I try to make living my faith an everyday, consistent practice. I spend time studying for at least a few minutes everyday. I pray daily and talk with God. I try to exemplify Christ-like attributes in all that I do. At work I strive to give my best while helping others do their best, even if it means working longer. I find the workplace to be a perfect place to live the gospel. I interact with so many people and get to discuss a wide variety of topics. When I talk to them about my weekend, I don't leave out the 3-hours I spend in Church Sunday morning. I just finished teaching an early morning class (seminary) to high school seniors. I am amazed at the young people of the church. They get up every morning and spend time discussing gospel topics while their friends sleep in. It was a transformative experience. Living my faith at home is my favorite. My wife and I have a ton of fun, but also spend time discussing how we can become better servants of God's children. We discuss how to help teach my kids to share and to love everyone, and follow Christ's example. I believe the home is the best place to learn to be more like God, for he is the perfect father. It's where we learn to love unconditionally.
