Hi I'm Melanie

I am a mother , a teacher, an animal lover, an artist and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I think the most important thing I am is a mother, even though now my son is grown. Raising him has brought the greatest joy into my life. I received a Bachelor's Degree and the a Master's Degree in Education with minors in Art and Spanish, but I stayed at home with my son and did not work outside the home for 12 years--he is just that important. There were many sacrifices that went with that decision, but I am so grateful that is what I was able to do. It enriched my life more than I can express. I now teach children in Elementary School. I am an ELL teacher which means I help those children who do not speak English as their first language to acquire the skills necessary to succeed in school. I love living in the Northwest and enjoy the outdoors and the beauty that surrounds me. I am trying to more fully pursue my Art. My preferred medium is pencil. I love to quilt and do other crafts. I would like to take voice lessons.

Why I am a Mormon

I come from a long history of members of this faith. My great or great great grandparents were the ones who joined the church and all were pioneers who crossed the plains. But I was born into a home with a parent who did not live his faith--in fact he was abusive and cruel--and I needed to make my own decisions as to whether or not this church is true. Early on I had faith promoting experiences. Heavenly Father answered my prayers. We are admonished to find this out for ourselves. We are told that we cannot stand on the testimony of others all our lives. There comes a point where we must come to know for ourselves--we cannot survive on borrowed light. So I put it to the test. I prayed to my Heavenly Father to know for myself if Joseph Smith was a prophet and whether or not this was the Lord's church. I cannot deny the answer I received. My faith has continued to grow over the years. I have had one certain answer to prayer ofter another. I know beyond a shadow of doubt that this is the Lord's church;that He guides and directs it through His living prophets.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in everything I do. It is part of all my decisions and makes my life better. My son is currently serving a two year mission for our church as a Spanish speaking missionary in the Utah Salt Lake City Mission. This means I cannot see him for two years, but this sacrifice is well worth the growth and blessings he receives in serving our Heavenly Father. I know this first hand, since I served a mission as well. I read my scriptures daily and this gives me comfort and helps to direct my life. I pray daily and this keeps me close to my Heavenly Father and helps me make the right decisions for my happiness and to try to bless the lives of others. I have seen the blessings that have come into my life as I try to keep the commandments and be the kind of person the Lord would have me be. I am far from perfect, but I find comfort in having guidance to help me to better myself. My life has been far from easy. Being a member of this church does not mean my life is free from problems. But it has helped me understand what I am to learn from the challenges that I have had to face and continue to face. I can truthfully say that I am grateful for the trials I have endured. I don't wish for any more, but I will submit to those that my Heavenly Father knows will be for my benefit. I work with the children in the church teaching them songs and music. I teach the children from age 18 months to 12 years old. They are wonderful to work with and bring much joy into my life.
