Hi I'm Richard

I have a young family of 6, and I service industrial X-Ray machines for a living. I am a Mormon.

About Me

When I was a young man, I was very envolved in BSA and camping. I was a missionary in Southern Brazil for two years from age 19 to 21. I met my wife in marching band at Idaho State University before I left and we got married shortly after I returned from Brazil. I went to college and got a degree in electronics. My wife and I enjoyed white-water kayaking and rock climbing while dating and after we were married in college. I have been done with school for a few years now and we have 4 kids. There are not many cliffs in South Texas or white water, but we take the kids out to the beach and camping as often as we can. When I am not at work, I love to be with my family! I really enjoy my older son's T-ball and soccer and my older daughter's dance classes. The younger two kids are fun to see develop as the older one talks more and the youngest is beginning to make more noises and crawl around more.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised by an LDS family. My father converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when he was about 21 years old. I had to do alot of personal studying and praying in order to remain faithful to the belief sytem I was taught as I was growing up. Because of the understanding I gained and the feelings and strong impressions I felt as I prayed and asked God if I had learned true doctrines and principles, that were truly from Him, I was able to hold fast to those ideals. I avoided many of the difficulties and sorrows that I have seen various friends and acquiantances pass through when I was a youth. I remember several specific occasions in which I was at crossroads in my life, and the convictions I gained through the Holy Spirit, of the truthfulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, steered me to make choices that have led to joy and peace up to this point in my life. I have recieved personal confirmation many times of the veracity of the fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ found in the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, through the promptings of the Holy Ghost. I have also tried and tested those principles, throughout my life, that were taught by Christ and His servants, the prophets, and found that they are true because my life is full of joy and peace regardless of what difficulties or trials have passed my way. I have found a firm anchor of faith as I have sought to follow Jesus Christ's example and teachings. My wife and I have a deep relationship that continues to build strength even after eight years of marriage, and we teach the gospel of Jesus Christ to our children with assurity that we are leading them in the right direction. There has never been a question my children have asked about the gospel that I have not been able to answer with with full conviction, and that is because I know that the fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored and is found in the teachings of the LDS Church.

How I live my faith

I live my faith each day as I gather my family to pray together in the mornings and at meal time. We read verses from the scriptures each night before bed, which can seem like quite a task with four children under six years old. I know it will be worth it though. We try to have have a family night one evening each week with a gospel lesson and fun activity. We go to church services on sundays in the morning. My wife works with children at church. I go with missionaries to help with lessons in homes whenever I am available throughout the week, and I am a cub scout leader. I travel a lot for work, and I try to share a little about my faith and beliefs as I encounter different people during stops for fuel and meals and also with the operators of the equipment that I maintain. I like to learn what others believe and how the teachings of Jesus Christ affect their lives. I also strive to strengthen others' faith in the Savior and bring them to an understanding of the fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our activity in the Church also creates a great network and provides many opportunities to serve each other and the friends and neighbors of the members of our congregation. For example, we moved recently to another place in town, and our friends next door, of another faith, moved on the same day. I got a bunch of guys from church together, and we moved both our housholds in one day! I basically live my religion day-to-day by being a kind and wholesome individual. I stay involved with my family; cultivating my relationship with my wife and teaching my children to follow Christ's example and to look to Him for their Salvation. I stay involved in service of my fellows in the town where I live and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, that has brought me so much peace and joy in my life, with people I encounter and with friends and neighbors. My church responsibilities help me to fulfill those duties and to focus on the more important aspects of life.
