Hi I'm Matthew Torres

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

To me the best part of life is spending time with my family and getting to know new and exciting people. I'm attending dental school right now and I am enjoying the ride that comes along with it. It is WAY harder than I had ever anticipated but I never have been stretched this much in my life, with the except of my mission. I love to play basketball, it doesn't matter where and it doesn't matter who with I just love to play. My wife and I hiked down the grand canyon a few years ago and it was one of the most memorable trip we've taken together. I grew up in a tiny town of less than 2,000 people, I graduated with 43 other kids. Literally when you want to go to the theatre to watch a movie, you have to drive an hour to the next town. If you want to go bowling, drive an hour. If you want to buy a pair of socks, drive an hour. Growing up in a small town did have some good times. I got to play for the highschool basketball, football and track team. In football my sophmore, junior and senior year our record was 24-3. We won one state championship and lost in one. Don't worry I'm still bitter about the loss:) Life has been so good to me, I have a beautiful wife, daughter and son, sometimes when things are quiet and I am up at 4 AM studying for an anatomy test I look at them while they are sleeping and think how much God has blessed me.

Why I am a Mormon

I find joy in what I do. In living the standards and truths that I have learned since I was young I've found strength, hope and peace. The world around seems to,crumble and everything is unstable. I see broken homes, broken marriages, broken people and the one solution I have found is the gospel,of Jesus Christ. I am mormon because I choose stability over unsteadiness. Because I choose peace over fear. Because I choose strength over weakness. That is why am mormon.

How I live my faith

I pray. I know that God is there to listen to me even when I can't see him and often times I don't feel that he answers me right away. He ALWAYS listens to me and we will answer, but it may be in his own time and in hiw own way. I find great strength knowing that God listens to my prayers and cares about what is going on in my life. I read scriptures. Everyday for half hour I read from the Bible or the Book or Mormon. In them I find peace from the teachings that are within. I find purpose to my life. I find strength to live my beliefs. I find hope in difficult circumstances. I go to church each sunday. To me going to church is like sharpening a knife. If you have ever tried to cut with a dull knife it is frustrating, it takes so much more effort to get the job done. When I go to church I am "sharper", more effective with my time. I believe that going to church has blessed me with a close relationship with God that I couldn't find elsewhere. I go to remember God and his Son Jesus Christ and to recommit myself to live according to their teachings. Living this way brings me happiness and joy that isn't dependent upon the stock market, the economy, my grades at school, my income, or anything else.
