Hi I'm Oliver

I'm a son, I'm a brother, I'm an uncle, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I come from pretty big family and they are probably my greatest joy. I really love all my brothers and sisters. I've had the opportunity to spend a lot of time lately living and working on the East Coast and I love the people there. I'm a student, and I love to experience other cultures, ideas, and foods (I love food).

Why I am a Mormon

I think the biggest reason why I'm a member is that it makes me happy. There is a great peace that has come to my life since I started to gain my own testimony of Jesus Christ. One of our church leaders said that because of the gospel of Christ "my past is redeemed, my present makes sense, and my future is secure," and I've always thought that it sums up quite nicely how the gospel deepens and broadens my happiness. I'm very grateful for the knowledge I have of my God, and the relationship that I have with Him. It is through reading the scriptures specifically the Book of Mormon, and through prayer that I have gained this witness, because as I do those things I fill His spirit and it feels my heart with His love. I'm also a Mormon, because of the knowledge and truths that come from learning about the restored gospel. What I've learned at church answers all the "life" questions that I think are the first questions anyone needs to answer before any other kind of knowledge will help them. Questions like "why am I here?" and "what is the purpose of my life?" and "what is truth." I think I could have all the knowledge in the world, but without those questions answered I would still feel incomplete and unfulfilled. The Gospel of Jesus Christ which I've learned through the the Book of Mormon, the Bible and other scriptures, and through the teachings of modern-day prophets, answer all those questions in a logical way that makes sense to me. More than that though, I've felt the Holy Spirit of God witness it to my heart and mind. I don't only think it's true, I know it's true, because God told me it is. All this makes me happy.

How I live my faith

Right now I think I live my through just being as good example as I can, and trying to reach out to help others when I have the opportunity.

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

Oliver
Each individual missionary saves up as much money as they can before leaving and will usually pay for his or her own mission. This is how most missions are paid for. Sometimes when their circumstances just don't allow them to be able to earn or save enough money, there is a fund in the church that members in the local area can donate to. Show more Show less

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

Oliver
There are so many blessings that come from having the gift of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost testifies of Christ, and through it we can come to know for ourselves that He is our Savior and Redeemer. The Holy Ghost also helps us learn of truth, and can help us understand the scriptures more clearly. It also acts as a Comforter, and brings peace and strenth to us as we go through our individual trials, and afflictions. It is through the Holy Ghost that we are able to know of the truth and divinity of the Book of Mormon and the Bible. Show more Show less

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Oliver
The Book of Mormon is similar to the Bible, in that it was written by prophets of God as they were inspired and directed by the Holy Spirit. However while most of the prophets who wrote the Bible lived around the Middle East, the prophets that wrote the Book of Mormon lived on what is now known as the American continent. That's why the names, stories, and experiences written in the Book of Mormon are completely different than the Bible, but because the men who wrote it were inspired by the same source (Jesus Christ) the message and doctrine that is preached in the Book of Mormon is completely in harmony with the Bible. It testifies that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He came to earth to die for us, and that only through Him and His gospel can we be given salvation. Show more Show less
