Hi I'm Jon

I'm a father, a scientist, a hockey and swimming fan, and a lover of life. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a chemist who works at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and love being both a scientist and a Mormon, because the ultimate goal of both is truth. I have absolutely no problem reconciling science and religion. God didn't have to bless me with the greatest children in the world, but he did. I have 3 children, and we love hockey, swimming, and playing board games. I love staying up late talking with the children about life, God, science, or whatever subject comes up. To me, the late talks are the greatest time of day for me.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born a Mormon, and was taught the gospel of Jesus Christ from a young age. However, like everybody else who desires to know God, I had to ask for the Holy Ghost to witness to me that Jesus Christ lives. The Holy Ghost has visited me many times to let me know that the pathway I am travelling is acceptable and leading to truth. I try to read the scriptures every day and pray, and although I miss here and there, I find that this is necessary for my happiness. And guess what, I am very happy.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by praying every day that I can feel the spirit. Some of my most spiritual times have come in the laboratory, or studying the truths of science. I attend church every week, not because it is some sort of requirement, but because I need it for my own strength. I also teach the adult sunday school, which makes me have to study the scriptures in depth every week. It is the best calling I have ever had in the Mormon church. (Plus, I get to tell a joke or two!)

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

I like to take my non-Mormon friends with me to the church cannery to help them as well as me prepare for times when food may not be so abundant. Many of my friends are concerned about the economy and how to prepare to take care of their family in difficult times. The cannery workers were so good to my friends, and only wanted the best for my friend's families. Plus, my friend's were able to acquire several months of food to help them in case of trouble.
