Hi I'm Shellie.

I grew up in the South. I love reading, cooking, crafting and interior decorating. I'm a wife and mother. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Most importantly, I am a wife and mother. My husband owns his business which means he is gone a lot, but it also provides enough income so that I can stay home with our two little boys. I love being home with them and yes, it can be difficult, but the moments of joy more than make up for the moments of frustration. Because of my avid interest in the written word, I chose to pursue a degree in English. Though I have long since earned my degree from BYU, I still love to read whenever I can. I am a regular at our local library and take my children there once a week. I am a self-taught interior decorator and love doing new things in my home. I love to cook and especially love to make any kind of scrumptious dessert. I am also a fan of anything with cheese as an ingredient (that includes romantic movies too). Creation is such a part of me. My husband and I have created a family and home together. I love to create good food and a warm home. I feel close to God when I am in the process of crafting something, and I know it is because He is the creator of all things, and when we use our imagination and talent to make something, (and especially when we are doing it for others) we are becoming more like Him.

Why I am a Mormon

I was so fortunate to have a family who taught us about God and encouraged us to live by his commandments. My parents also taught us to learn for ourselves if the Gospel was really true. I never had a single experience that was earth-shattering, but quietly, every day, I felt good about doing the things I knew to be right. I know that the restored Gospel as revealed to Joseph Smith is the true message of the Savior. I know that the Book of Mormon is divinely given from God. I know that the Savior lives and that the power of the Atonement is greater than we can possibly comprehend. I have felt the healing power of his sacrifice personally in my life.

How I live my faith

I have the opportunity to work with the children teaching them music every week. I feel like I have benefited more than the children from this experience! I have learned many different teaching techniques, and more about the different learning styles for younger children versus older children. I have also gained confidence in my singing. I used to be afraid to sing in public, but now I sing in front of the children every week!

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

Shellie.
I have faith that Jesus Christ is the ultimate example of how we should live. Christ gave his entire life to others and that is one of the most important principles in marriage and family life. When I am selfish and thinking only of myself, I am miserable. But when I look outside of myself and look for opportunities to make other people happy (which is what Jesus did) I become happy. And doing that takes faith in Jesus Christ, that doing what He did is the true path to lasting joy. Having faith in Jesus Christ also means having a positive outlook on life. Jesus Christ's Atonement means that mistakes can be corrected. He always sees the best in us, and therefore we should always look for the best in others. Show more Show less
