Hi I'm Laura

I've traveled around the world. I want to change it for the better. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm an almost college graduate in English linguistics, editing, and Portuguese. I love to travel and experience other cultures and viewpoints. I love to do so many things it makes it hard for me to choose one thing to commit myself to doing for a career. I love ultimate Frisbee and doing anything outdoors. If I could choose to spend every day outside, I would do it in a heartbeat, but I guess I love school too much to do it.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a Mormon. My parents both found the gospel when they were in their teens and they knew it was true. Because of their examples I came to know for myself that the Mormon church is the true church on the earth. I was able to serve as a missionary and I loved working with the people where I served. I was able to teach them about Jesus Christ and of God's plan of happiness for us. It touched my heart to see how their lives changed and they became so happy. They knew they had found the truth and their lives were filled with peace and happiness. I know that this is the true church restored to the earth. I know Jesus Christ is our Savior. I know God is a loving Heavenly Father and He wants the best for us. He really does love us. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and with the Bible it contains the fullness of the truth. I found out these things by praying about them and seeking to know for myself. I am a Mormon because I know this is true. I know that by living the principles I learn through the gospel that I will be happy and filled with peace.

How I live my faith

I know that the best way for me to live my faith is by helping others. I try to see the needs of others and do what I can to make their difficult times easier. It may be listening to them, going to the store for them, or giving them a hug. I also get to help by teaching a class once a month in church. It's my favorite thing and I love to see how the Lord can touch the women I teach and help inspire them to be better and grow closer to Him.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Laura
The Atonement is another word for sacrifice. Jesus Christ came to Earth and lived a perfect life so that we could live forever with Him and our families. We're not perfect and we all make mistakes. God knew that we would need a way to be able to live with Him, so He gave us His Son, Jesus Christ. Because Christ was perfect and lived a perfect life, He was able to offer himself as a sacrifice for our mistakes. Through this sacrifice, we can repent and become perfected through Christ. This makes it possible for us to live with God, Jesus Christ, and our families forever. The Atonement is perfect love. Christ sacrificed himself for us because He loved us and He still does.
