Hi I'm Brenda

I'm a Marine wife and mom. I grew up in L.A. Now I live in Japan. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a military wife and stay at home mom. I served a mission to Guayaquil, Ecuador and graduated from BYU with a degree in Spanish and English. I've loved being at home with my five kids. My Marine husband and I have four sons ages 20, 18, 16 and 8 and one daughter 13. Our 16 year old is autistic and teaches us all many things about love, patience and resourcefulness. He teaches us to cherish small things that we would otherwise take for granted. I have enormous respect for Special Education teachers and consider pursuing that as a career someday. I love Jane Austen books and movies. I've even significantly indoctrinated my husband and son. ;) Our family enjoys books and movies together. We love Disney, Pixar, Harry Potter, Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites and many musicals such as Singin' in the Rain or Fiddler on the Roof. We crack ourselves up by inserting quotes from books or movies into ordinary conversations. My oldest son is a missionary in Chile. I miss him and wish that our family could always be under one roof. But I am also thrilled to see him progress and express his own commitment to Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a member of the Church because I believe it is Christ's true Church that He Himself restored to the earth. I know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Savior and Redeemer of the world. It is only through the grace of Jesus Christ that I can repent and return to Heavenly Father and receive Eternal Life and be together with my family for eternity. I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith, called him to be a prophet, gave him their Priesthood authority and commanded him to translate the Book of Mormon and restore their Church on earth once again. I love the Bible and know that it is the word of God. I also know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and that God continues to speak to Apostles and Prophets today. The Heavens are still open. Thomas S. Monson is our current prophet and I am so grateful for a prophet that continues to tell us God's will in a changing and confusing world (just as Moses or Jeremiah or Peter did in their days). Safety, peace and happiness are only found in chastity and fidelity to God and family.

How I live my faith

Sisters in our Church are organized into companionships of two to visit each sister in the congregation each month to share a spiritual message and inquire after her well being. These "Visiting Teachers" look after each sister they are assigned to visit and can provide or coordinate any assistance that is needed. Visiting Teachers try to be aware of triumphs and challenges their sisters face such as births, deaths, relationships, illness, employment, education or housing. This is how we take care of each other. Currently I am the "Visiting teaching Coordinator" and monitor the assignments of who visits whom.
