Hi I'm Rich

I'm a doctor in the Pharmaceutical industry working to progress new targeted therapy cancer medicines. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love spending time with my wife and our ten children - camping, gardening, and especially on the basketball court. I grew up an avid scouter, earned my Eagle Scout award, and have five sons at various stages of the scouting trail. We planted 40 fruit trees in our back yard and enjoy working together to harvest homegrown berries and vegetables each year from our garden. But of all my hobbies, basketball remains my greatest passion. I played basketball in college and for the past 10 years have enjoyed coaching our children and others on community teams.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when I was a young boy. Despite growing up within the church, I have gained my own testimony and assurance that God has restored truth to the earth in our day, that he does communicate today, as in times past through a prophet, and that the restored authority of the priesthood is once again on the earth to make available to us the ordinances of salvation - such as baptism. All that is good in my life I can trace back to my decision to become a member of the church. The Church's emphasis on families and the opportunities to serve help me stay focused on those things that matter most. I will be forever grateful for the missionaries that found my parents and invited them to learn more about the Mormon church.

How I live my faith

Within our home we set aside time each night after dinner to spend time reading from the scriptures together as a family, always closing by kneeling as a family in prayer. With ten active children we don't always have everyone present - but all those at home know we will gather regardless. Having learned the Spanish language while serving a two year church mission at age 19, I now use it to support two spanish speaking congregations in our area, providing training and support for the leaders and members. I also work with all the youth and young adults in our area - helping them prepare to serve missions, to obtain higher education, and to strengthen their faith. Every month I visit several families in our congregation with one of my sons, to teach them gospel messages and provide service in ways that would be meaningful to them.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Rich
The scriptures provide a blueprint for how we should live our lives. By reading them we learn about Christ and we will be taught how we can pattern our lives after him. In addition, as we have questions or challenges in our lives, we will hear God's direction for us while we read his words, for "The words of Christ will tell you all things what you should do". Reading the scriptures, particulaly the Book of Mormon will ensure that we are not blind to temptation and we see things for what they really are. Having the scriptures, and not reading from them is like choosing to walk in darkness at noon-day. Show more Show less

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

Rich
The promise in the scriptures is that through the power of the Holy Ghost you may know the truth of all things. Living our lives in harmony with the truths God has taught prepares us to receive inspiration from the Holy Ghost in our lives. As we follow that inspiration we will be led to discover those things God would have us learn and receive those blessings he has in store for us. Show more Show less
