Hi I'm Viddy Harris

I'm a chemist. I love both reading and hiking and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I work as a Chemist and take night courses at a local University. I love baking, reading, hiking and music. I play the piano and organ. I also enjoy late night walks with my wife. We have been married over six years and haven't been able to have children of our own, but hopefully will be adopting soon.

Why I am a Mormon

I've always felt there was and is a higher power, and in searching for it I found that God does answer prayers and that each of us can feel of His love for us. As a scientist I like things that are logical and this is the only religion that believes that all truth can be made into a whole. What does that mean to me? It means that it does not matter if the truth is scientific or religious it has a place in our lives and that one truth does not exist separately from another. I know that God live and loves us like I know that 2+2=4, or that there are thermodynamic laws governing chemical reactions. How do I know these things? I studied and then I prayed to know of God's love and he answered my prayers through the manifestation of the Holy Spirit. The same for my scientific knowlege... I studied and then tested the law's of thermodynamics. This is basically the scientific method applied in all areas of life. We question, devise a hypothesis, and a way to test that hypothesis. I've read and studied the scriptures (Old and New Testament along with the Book of Mormon.) I've found them to be not only true, but the word of God. I know that God speaks to His children still through modern-day prophets and I know that the Church of Jesus Chirst of Latter-day Saints is His church restored to the earth. How do I know? The same way we know anything we have a question, we study, and then we form a hypothesis and test that hypothesis. You can test religion through prayer as I have done. I have felt that these things are true by the peace, love, and joy I feel which are the manifestations of the Holy Ghost (Gal. 5:22-23).

How I live my faith

I have worked with the Boy Scouts for years and recently was asked to help with church administration in our local area. I have helped with the local food bank and with clean-up projects through out the community. I also go and vist those who can't always make it out to meeting because of illness or other challenges. My wife and I donate to local charities and to the church's Fast Offering fund.
