Hi I'm Nathan Doutre

I'm from the wet side of Washington and love the rain. I'm a family man, a teacher, a sports fanatic, and a Mormon.

About Me

First and foremost, I am a family man. I have two kids, a daughter and a son, and they are a joy to be with. My wife and I are best friends and love spending time with each other. We like playing board games, having outdoor adventures, and simply talking. I graduated in April of 2013 from BYU-Idaho, and now teach seminary at a high school in Utah. I love playing ultimate...or ultimate Frisbee as some of you may know it. I tore my ACL and messed up my meniscus playing earlier this year. I guess I really get into it. Overall, life is good, and I am thankful for all of the amazing blessings in my life that God has given me.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in a Mormon family from the get-go, so I have always had examples in my life of what blessings can come from having the Gospel of Christ in your life. Both of my parents are amazing and are great disciples of Christ. But as a youth, I struggled, as many do, to find what really was true. I had many great conversations with my friends of other faiths, often finding common ground that we shared in our beliefs. In the end, it was my reading of the Book of Mormon that gave me direction. As I read, pondered, and prayed, the love of my Heavenly Father really shone through to me. As I read the testimonies of Jesus Christ written in the Book of Mormon, my mind was turned to our Heavenly Father and how His plan for us is so perfect. I knew then and still know now that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. I knew then and still know now that I must follow Christ if I wanted to return to Heavenly Father and live with him and my family for forever. I knew then and still know now that this church and the Gospel of Jesus Christ are the way to accomplish that.

How I live my faith

My wife and I recently moved down from Idaho to Utah, so I have had to readjust and see how I really do live my faith. I am lucky to be working as a seminary teacher at a high school, meaning that I teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to youth every day for a living. That blesses my life immensely, as I am able to immerse myself in the scriptures. I also try to find connections to Christ in my every day life. He really can be found in anything, and discovering those connections brightens my day.

Are Mormons Christians?

Nathan Doutre
Simply put, yes, Mormons are Christians. I grew up in Western Washington, and many of my friends were rather active in their faiths and churches. Many of my friends belonged to "recognized" Christian faiths, such as Lutheran and Baptist. In conversations with these friends, we found common ground on Jesus Christ. I was able to share my thoughts and feelings about Christ. He is my Savior and Redeemer. He is the only way back to Heavenly Father. It is through Jesus Christ that we are saved. He is the perfect example of the kind of man that I want to be. The name of the church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, should help us all understand that Christ is in the middle of our lives, our faith, and everything that we do.
