Hi I'm Rick

I grew up in the Midwest and am now in the South. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am an attorney who specializes in international business transactions. My wife and I have been married since 1983 and have three children. Our oldest daughter was married in 2008 and our youngest daughter was married in 2011. Our son served a mission for the church working with Spanish-speaking people and resumed college at BYU after returning.

Why I am a Mormon

On a family vacation out west when I was in high school, our car was damaged in an accident near Logan, Utah. While waiting for repair parts, my mother read the Book of Mormon she found in the motel room. We decided to stop in Salt Lake City when our trip resumed. We filled out a card in the Visitors' Center at Temple Square and full-time missionaries visited us when when we got back home. I was baptized at the age of 16.

How I live my faith

In 2009, I was called as a lay bishop of my local congregation (a "ward"). I am assisted by two counselors, who, like me, have full-time careers outside of church, so primarily we do our volunteer church service in the evenings and on weekends. Our ward has over 500 members, many of whom also have callings to assist in teaching adults and youth or working with members on their spiritual and temporal well-being.
