Hi I'm Dallan

I have five children. I develop software for websites. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've been a computer geek ever since I took a programming class in high school. I ended up getting a PhD from Stanford University and am listed among the 1,000 most-cited authors in computer science. I love to learn, and I love to help people. Many people challenge faith in an academic environment. I believe that faith and academic knowledge go hand-in-hand. The core ideas for two of my best papers while a PhD student came after prayer through inspiration. My wife and I are the proud parents of five children. Four are adopted - one from the US and three from China. We don't look much like each other, but we love each other very much.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a Mormon all my life. My parents joined shortly before I was born. I'm glad they did. This is a _good_ way of life. Even if it were not true (I know that it is), it would be a fulfilling way to live. Living this way helps me to grow as a person, feel good about myself and those around me, and gives me opportunities to serve others. This church is true, and it's important. I found that out for myself when I was in college. Not only is this a good way to live, it's the way that Christ wants us to live.

How I live my faith

To live my faith I try to look for opportunities to help others. I start by looking for ways to help my wife accomplish the things that she wants to do. She's writing a book in her (fairly limited) spare time, and I'm her sounding board / beta-reader. I also look for ways to help and have fun with my children. We do a lot of homework together, and we also go to fun places together. Our church believes that family history (genealogy) is important. There are many ways that technology can be used to make genealogy more fun and rewarding. One of my hobbies is working on a non-profit website to help people share their research. I also serve with the youth in our church. I've been asked to do this just recently and don't know the youth well yet, but I look forward to getting to know them better!
