Hi I'm Abby

I'm sweet and southern. I'm a lover of the outdoors. I'm a student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the middle of 5 kids, and 18 years old! I am a sophomore at BYU with big dreams of becoming a surgeon. I love kayaking, hiking, playing sports, and spending time with family and friends!

Why I am a Mormon

Being a Mormon is like opening up the door to always being happy. Their is the comfort of knowing that our Savior is always near and looking after me. He truly cares about me! You never have to worry about being lonely, because the Lord is always near. And he feels every hurt, every insecurity, every embarrassment right along with you. I'm a Mormon because it is the one constant in my life. I'm not perfect, and I know through the repentance process and the Plan of Salvation that I can be forgiven and live with my father in heaven again. I'm a Mormon because I know without a shadow of a doubt that there are living prophets on the earth today. I know that by the power of the priesthood miracles can happen. I know that by making and keeping covenants with our Father in one of his temples can allow us to live with our husband, kids, and other family members for eternity. And what a blessing it is to have that knowledge.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by always being the sunshine in someones day. I start and end the day with a smile on my face, and the gospel allows me to have that much joy. Of course there are bad days, but it is the bad days and trials that I go through that make me love the gospel more deeply, and my Heavenly Father and his son. I know that whatever happens, Christ is there for me every step of the way. I live my faith by surrounding myself with people that have the same standards and beliefs as I do. Growing up it was really hard, because not many of my friends believed the same thing. When I got to BYU I realized how great of a blessing it was to have friends that understand me and my commitment to this beautiful gospel. I live my faith by being an example to my friends and family. Until about two years ago my dad hadn't been to church since he was a kid. While trying to convince him to let me go to BYU, i bore my testimony with him through a letter and explained how important it was to me. Needless to say, he has been coming to church ever since. Through that it really showed me to never give up. The gospel works and speaks to people and in different ways. Don't give up on those you love. I live my faith by showing love to others.

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Abby
We perform baptisms for the dead for those who didn't have the opportunity to be baptized and hear of the gospel while on the Earth. And it is their decision whether they want to accept the ordinance performed on their behalf or not. It gives them an opportunity to accept the gospel. A member of the church acts as a proxy for the deceased person, and this has to be performed in a temple by the proper authority. Show more Show less
