Hi I'm Ladd

I love bikes and doing things with my family. I'm an electrical engineer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My life is pretty simple - but very busy! I work as an engineer, I have a beautiful wife and 5 amazing children, I love the gospel, and any spare time I can squeeze in I try to hop on a bicycle.

Why I am a Mormon

My ancestors go back several generations with the Mormon church, but I don't remember my family ever going to church. My mom thought of the church as something to teach good morals but nothing else. Somehow I started going to church as a boy, and I always felt like I was in the right place. In high school, I read the Book of Mormon and had much stronger feelings about Jesus Christ and his sacrifice for me. I determined to serve a mission to teach the truths I now understood better. I'm very grateful for the gospel and the joy it brings into my life.

How I live my faith

One specific way that I live my faith is by teaching. On Sundays, I teach a group of 12 and 13 year old boys. On weekdays, I teach an early-morning religion class. Last year our text was the Book of Mormon. This year it is Mormon history. In general, the gospel is just part of who I am and what I do. I don't see it as something separate. For example, I can mountain bike with friends from work and go out for pizza afterwards. I have no temptation to sample the pitcher of beer, and I don't feel uncomfortable drinking water instead. My friends respect my choices and understand.

How are modesty and chastity related? How can parents teach their children to be modest in dress, language and behavior?

As the parents of 4 beautiful girls and one boy, this is something my wife and I are very concerned about. First of all, we teach modesty by example. My wife and I wear clothes and use language that we would be comfortable with for our children. Also, we teach our children that they have infinite worth to their Heavenly Father and to us. They don't need to dress provocatively to get attention, their self-worth doesn't depend on the attention they can get at school. Don't forget, just having discussions with them about the importance of a virtuous life can be very powerful. Finally, we pray for help in knowing what to say and how to discuss modesty and chastity. I know that God will help us as we plead for help. Show more Show less
