Hi I'm Jan

I'm training for my first marathon. I'm a mother of five. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife, and mother to five great kids. I'm a stay-at-home mom, and teach piano lessons part-time from home. I have my a BS degree in Phys Ed, with a minor in Health. I taught school for a few years, and may go back one day. I LOVE to run, and am preparing for my first marathon in the spring. I've done a couple of 2-day Ragnar relays, which are a lot of fun! I love to hike, and spend time outdoors. Camping with family is the best!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born & raised in the church. I was baptized at age 8, and continue to be a member... I love the teachings of this church! I have studied the Book of Mormon and the Bible, and I know they are the word of God. I have felt the Holy Ghost testify of the truthfulness of the church. My husband and I were married in a LDS temple, where we are promised blessings of eternal life with our family if we live righteously. That means everything to me! I love my Savior, Jesus Christ. He suffered for my sins, and made it possible for me to be ressurected. I'm truly in debt to Him, and am trying to live my life in a way that will show Him my love and appreciation.

How I live my faith

I was recently asked to be the children's music leader in our congregation. I love it! I help the kids learn songs about faith, gospel principles, and The Savior. We prepare for a program that the children present to the congregation each fall. I've also been asked to visit two women in our congregation each month,. I have a "visiting teaching" partner, and we contact our "sisters" each month, sharing a lesson and seeing if there is anything that we can help them with. It's a great way to get to know them better, and to let them know they're loved.

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

We believe that temples are sacred, and only those who are living up to a certain standard can enter. All church members are encouraged to live in such a way that they can go. There is nothing "secret", but everything that goes on in the temple is sacred, so we don't talk about it outside of the temple. Show more Show less

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

We feel it's showing repect to dress up for church. Females wear dresses or skirts, and males wear dress shirts and ties, and sometimes suits. We pretty much celebrate the same holidays as everyone else. One difference I can think of is with Easter. Easter is one of my favorite holidays. We choose to focus on the resurection rather than the crucifixion (That is why we don't have crosses on our churches, too). Show more Show less
